Hi, all. I'm midway in my restoration. I am trying to undo previous wrong-doings on my 'Bessie' and tonight was tinkering with the exhaust. I am sure the muffler, and maybe the cat, have been replaced before and I am trying to figure out how the exhaust was atached in front of the rear axle originally (inline 6, 258 cu inch). There is an outrigger on the frame that has a bracket attached for connecting to the exhaust sytem in front of the rear axle. On mine however, this mount is right in the middle of the muffler. Does someone have a picture of how it was originally attached at that point? I have the factory diagrams from the factory manual and also from posts here but none show how it actually attached to the frame. I figure my current muffler is mounted too far forward but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,
Mark

exhaust mount

Here is one. Mine is mounted using the front clamp for the muffler.

Along this same line, how long of a pipe would I need to connect the head pipe to the muffler with out a catalytic converter? MI is not an emissions state, so I'm not going to put one back in, since it doesn't have one currently.

Thanks, 4miles. I wondered how that bracket was originally used. On mine the current muffler is about 9" forward of yours, so I really can't use the bracket unless I have a long arm on it. Nice looking rebuild by the way! Thanks much.

muffler

Hey, 4miles, what brand muffler did you use? I got a "Quiet Flow" from Quadratec but the inlet and outlet are reveresed from yours. Mine looks like outlet is centered and inlet is offset to one side.

Thanks.

Muffler

Not sure of the brand, I will see if I can find some info. I just matched up what was on it with a muffler from Autozone.
