Factory A/C photos and information

Hey, all. I bought most all of the parts I think I need to add factory A/C to my restore. There are, I'm sure, some items I've missed and and I could use some insight on installing the parts onto my "Bessie". I have a v-belt setup currently. Can anyone point me to the right thread or photos to guide me in how it is all attached? None of the manuals, even the factory manual, show how and exactly where all the parts mount. I have the stock 4.2 engine. I got the compressor, hoses, evaporator! Condenser, some brackets and under dash assembly for about $150 and it would be great to get it working.

Thanks,
Mark

Check out my photo album in the link in my sig. You'll see pictures of my factory V belt AC there. If you need more pictures, pm me and I'll take what you need.

Thanks, Joe! That is just the thing I was looking for...pictures are worth a thousand words each. Excuse my ignorance but what is mounted above the power steering pump in some of your photos? I can't identify that v-belt driven component. I will look closely at all your photos for my ac install. I'll "holler" back at you if I am missing something in the pics. I can already tell i am missing an idler pulley and my crank pulley has only two v-belt grooves. Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Mark

You are most welcome. The component you are looking at above the power steering is the air pump. My 82 doesn't have a computer so it has an air pump to help reduce emissions. Let me know if you need anything else.

Joe

Ah, thanks. Mine has the pulsed air system on it...it works too. Seems like a convoluted mess on mine but I wanted to keep that part stock as you have. Thanks again. Nice build photos, definitely helpful for any restorer. I have about 500 pics of mine so far...I suppose I need to find an easy way to post them.

Hey Mark, I live in Russelville, 'bout 17 miles from greenville. We ought to get together sometime and talk about AMC stuff. Lol

Sounds good...if you are ever Sunday driving in the Camp Creek area or near Green mountain rd let me know. I'm not a die hard off roader, though I live in the mountains and my long dirt driveway is rougher than most modern Jeeps seem to ever go. I'm just restoring my Scrambler that i got nearly 16 years ago, and attached to it for personal reasons. Oh, I've got friends in Bulls Gap and Midway...not too far from Russelville.

I was in Greenville thursday, bought a door for my 8. The guy I bought it from was telling me about Horsecreek? Never been but sounds like somewhere I'd like to check out. I had family in Green Co. but most have died out all but distant relatives. My grandfather had a farm not far from Macdonald school. I ate in Bulls Gap today at Aces BBQ. It's a little hole in the wall place at (the only) redlight.Lol Good food!

Great! I was off from work for Good Friday today and went with my wife an kids to Morristown. I drove right through Russelville on Andrew Johnson highway. Horse Creek area has a good place to go camping...not been there in some years, maybe when the kids are a little older I'll take them. I'm not too far away from there, maybe 20 minutes. Oh, a friend told me today there is an 8 for sale in Gate City VA for $1800 asking listed on Craigslist. I'm set with mine but thought I'd pass it along if you needed a lead. If you're ever driving around the area let me know.
