Factory Photo's Thread

Dain,

Thanks for posting! Sounds like they gave a fairly harsh review. The picture with the twisted bumper makes me cringe.

Great Stuff.... these guys actually tested it out and beat it up a little. In the March 1981 "preview article" they really dont say much about it at all, using it wise.

Those end caps were a failure from the START!!!

The harshness seemed to be focused on the soft top (or the failure to have instructions for it) and the usability of the bed. If the wood rails are blocking the access, remove them. Simple.

Yep and same with the side steps. I like the shin comment while struggling with the soft top. ;)

Peak hp is at 3200 rpm????

What was the factory redline for the 258?

0-60 in 18 seconds????

Just goes to show how far we've come. A half ton Chevy is now 7.5 right from the factory.

The factory tach on the 6 cyl shows a redline of 4500. I wouldn't try it tho

Got a question... My jeep is just like the tan one in the 4wheeler article above. The hardtop on the tan one doesn't look nutmeg to me...more of a brown color. The one on mine appears to be the factor paint and looks much like this color...

Is it just me...or does this look like a honey color.

Mine is in the paint shop ans thinking about matching the current color vs going with nutmeg. I think this color looks better anyway.

Hi Josh - good call, and I think that in this very early "photo shoot" scrambler, they didn't use true nutmeg for some reason. I agree it looks like more of the 1980 tan. It could also be the lighting or photo exposure.

Oh the 70's ......

Groovy Super Jeep poster

I have a laminated copy of the magazine ad of the same image, but want the poster! Is it for sale?

Bringing this thread back from the dead, to share some 1984 advertising guidance that was sent to the dealers back then on how to promote the (then dying) scrambler. Dying in that when this was published , sales were already on the way to being cut in half.

Don't see nothing about Overlanders hehehe

Hey why didn't you get those in the US anyway? Would they have impacted on other brand sales of similar vehicles?

Haha. Well there are a few in my overlander thread and some "in Oz" pics that the owner who owned it the longest sent me. He is the one who set it up for such long treks.

And on your second point , wouldn't we all like to know. It's just puzzling the world cab wasn't an entire world option !

Who even called it that? All this Overlander madness has me thinking about returning mine to its former glory. I'd put a rear sway bar on to maybe make it feel a little less heavy on the road

Also found a 70s UK Brochure with a young looking Elton John and some other (probably unknown to you lot and vaguely familiar to me) celebs on the back...
