Well, I found one. No driveline, but solid tub and frame. It will be here in Mass. around April, cuz I ain,t driving out to Colorado this winter. I had been looking for a couple of years now and could not find something I could afford or wasn't rotten. This one I bought from a friend of mine in Delta Colorado ( BC Vintage Jeeps ) or Boston Bob as some might know him. Funny thing is, I just bought a nice complete and mostly original 46 VEC from him a few months back and decided I was done for a while and then this. So what I have at my disposal for drivelines is a brand new 304 with T-18 and Dana 20. Or a new 327 SBC with a manual valve body 700R4 and a Dana 300. All this is just sitting in my new smaller, much smaller barn (somewhere) waiting for a home.I'll try to post a link to it and see if it works. But I'm very happy with it and looking forward to hitting it to get it up and running. Wish me luck.

Ok, figured it out. I just got talked into an LS 5.3, 700R4 and Dana 300 combo. The LS I don't have yet.

Worse part about this purchase was I spent the money I was saving up to buy Big Waltons LJ. I feel like crap, but I have not seen a scrambler this good a condition in a few years that wasn't outside of my budget. Sorry Eric !

I still haven't figured out my engine/trans combo.

Thanks Bud. You of all people know what it's like to try and find a good Jeep that isn't rusted out up here. I'm already selling off a couple of projects to recoup the money to buy the LJ. But it may be a while to get those sold. One will be the 68 CJ-6 I've working on the last year and a half and the other will be the 66 CJ-6a That I redid the tub on last year. But getting people to buy right now is like who is going to show up and who is going to stand you up. Listed a M416 a couple of days ago and been stood up three times.

Use the 4L60E so the same harness/PCM that the engine uses can control it. The 700R4 transmissions are a holy PITA to get tolerable.

Things have been weird lately with CL/FB people and showing up... a lot of it is weather related (really really cold). And the rest of it is basically people want deals that aren't realistic... if I am buying, they want 2x what the thing is worth, when I go to sell something, people are offering half... it is really strange about some of the attitudes.

As stated above, if going LS use the native auto trans. If you want to use the 700r4, use a TBI 350 as its much easier to get everything happy.

Look into dana 300 fitment issues as the trans pans on the 700 and 4l60 are an issue. I am using an NP241C on mine with a slip yoke eliminator.

sdsupilot I have a 700R4 that is the manual body with no computer needed and that is already adapted to my Dana 300 with lowmax. I'll have to buy a new converter with the right stall.

That makes the decision easier for sure. Your crawl ratio is going to be pretty crazy. The 700 (and 4l60 for that matter) have a nice low 1st for an automatic.

Just make sure when installing the powertrain to offset to the drivers side and really watch for front driveshaft clearance. Its been done many times, but it is a tight fit.

Yeh when I dropped a 4.3 vortec in my 46 2a, I did the same thing mocking it up. Went close driver to get the clearance for my front drive shaft. The only thing in my favor is I'll be fabbing all my own cross members and mounts and skid, so I'll have no restrictions on where or how.
