I was driving me jeep all day and nothing was wrong. When I got about 2 blocks away from my driveway, I decided to tramp the gas. Off we went smooth sailing...until I came to the stop sign. The jeep dies. I chalk it up to me goofing around and turn the key...jeep starts right up and i drive to my driveway. Once I get it there it dies again! Now it won't idle...period.

So I thought that perhaps it is a little vapor locked. It sat in the garage for 5 hours. I go back and I pump the gas once and it fires right up. Running without a sputter at high idle (estimate idle to be about 1400rpm. I tap it down and it dies. I start it again and it runs at high idle perfectly. I tap it down and it dies.

This jeep has no emissions on it. It has a new fuel filter, and the fuel pump is obviously delivering the gas. The only vacuum line on it is the idle advance and the brake vacuum, both of which are fine.

Any clue? Please help me...

Sounds like something got jarred free in the jets.
Is it a 6 cyl? Stock carb?
Try this:ignition upgrade
there's something else I can't find- about cleaning out the carb with pipe cleaners in some certain jets,,,

I have a weber and it only has 4k on it! It already has the ignition upgrade (tfi) and i am running a MSD6A that has about 2k on it. Could I be losing vacuum on the intake manifold? Vacuum around the carb perhaps?

check around the base of the carb for a small vaccum leak, then check your idle screw adjustment-if that don't work try resetting all your idle adjustment/fuel/air screws by screwing them all the way in and backing them off 1 turn to start your adjustments-start the motor and then back your air/fuel screw or screws out untill it starts to sputter, turn back in untill you get as high and smooth idle as you can get, then check your idle rpms they should be around 700rpms,if you have to reset your idle screw you will need to go through the air/fuel setup again, weber carbs are very sensitve to changes in the air/fuel setting at idle,do the adjustments with the engine at operating temperture-hope this helps and good luck-JC:p

i got it

the base of the carb was loose...that's what happens when you don't put on the lockwashers. ANyway, I took the carb off, popped on a new gasket, put lockwashers on and it runs perfect. Can't complain now.

Thanks for all the input.
