ok
I helped my brother buy a 78 CJ7 yesterday. It has lots of body rust; rocker panels, wheel wells, floors. But the frame and driveline are great. It has the original 304 with 3sp. 74k miles and well maintained mechanically. He has the ability to replace some panels ect so it doesnt need to be perfect. I don't have a clue where to start looking or if they even exist. We would like to find it somwhere in the mid west or mid south. We live in Okla but he works in Lousiana. Any ideas or leads are appreciated.

Atleast you are on the right half of the country to be looking. Texas and Colorado if I remember correctly had some vendors that had some tubs awhile back. Google CJ7 tubs

Ok, on the hunt for a YJ tub. What about the VIN? Doesn't the tub and the frame both have have VIN plates? Is it a big deal ion they don't match or the tub plate is missing?

I don't know how it is in OK... but, in NM, you need two VIN locations. The windshield frame tag and the frame stamp would work.

I have heard of tub VIN plates being swapped... but, I'd contact your state DMV and ask some questions before going that route.

My guess is, move the vin tag up by the dash and call it good. I imagine OK is pretty lenient about such things. Frame will have the vin above the rear wheel, move the vin plate to the new tub and install.

I'd ask @mxracer919. He'd probably know. Or just do it......

That’s always been my theory, never had to go that route but figure in the end when you own both Jeeps it’s all on the up and up.

As far as the vins matching the vin is on the top of the passenger frame rail over the rear axle. At that point they match…….if it’s legible that is. The k my rosette rivets are on the windshield plate and that one bolts on.

I also live in OK. They do a vin inspection when you are bringing a vehicle in from out of state. When they checked mine they only checked the vin on the wiper motor plate. I honestly can't see a tag agency caring enough to crawl around and look at the frame rail.

How nice of a tub are you looking for? I know of a few 7/YJ tubs I could check on. Also, if you are needing specific chunks of a tub I have a buddy with some of those as well.

I'm also from OKC and while looking for a tub for my cj-8 I ound a nice tub for a 7 down in Forney, TX. The listing is in FB Marketplace, Dallas. Give Bert a call. He's always been fair with me on parts.
