My De-Rustification Project

On my cj7 I just installed a MTS tank. With the body lift the one hose was about 1" short. I could barely connect it but feared that it could pull off if the body flexed. I found that a 3/4" copper water line (I believe it was 3/4", I would have to check) made a tight fit in the hose. I cut the hose is a straight section and used a 3" piece with hose clamps. Since it's just a filler hose (fuel doesn't sit in the hose) I didn't worry about leaking. Had no problem with it and copper doesn't rust like steel and with a tight fit never worried about putting a flare in the tube (for tighter fit).

Exactly. Not only am I using it on an 8, bit I have a 1" body lift built into the body mounts. Good point. I may have to extend as well.
 
Works great. We have a home depot here that's where I got the pipe. They sell 12" sections (for repair) so you don't have to buy a 10' piece. Just take your hose with you to check that It's tight enough.

Yeah. Thanks. It should be 1" for the filler and 3/4" for the vent.
 
I had the same problem with the Genright 20 gal fuel tank with the hoses. The good thing is I was also using new hoses and although they were smaller I was able to get them to stretch enough to fit the tank. This would be impossible with old dried hoses.
 
Looks like I am assembling folks to help me move the tub on Saturday. Can't wait. Got a few little things to do tonight and in the morning to prep for it.

Speaking of, I know where the drain plug is for the d300 t-case. But can someone show me on a pic where the refill hole is?

Well I just ordered the fuel filler and vent hoses from Randy The Jeep Guy.
 
And I just drained and refilled the transmission fluid and t-case fluid. A lot easier with the body off. ;)
 
Made a lot of progress today. Started by taking off the rear bumper, the seats and the top. Then folks came over and we started to get to the body. After a lot of aligning the jeeps just right and prepping the 2x4s, we started it. The picks that I cut work, but some will have to be redone as they are not thick enough. But I can do that in the garage now. Here are the pics and a video.

I am so frigging happy to get this done today. There is a light at the end of this tunnel. I just hope the HOA does not mind the old chassis in the driveway for a little longer.

Nice job guys! Dang Dain your gonna be done before me and I'm only swapping the engine. But I'll be done sometime this Spring. Starting to look like the Scrambler again.

Thanks Pete. The rush is on now. Planning to take it on the trails in May. So I want it driving in March so I can work some bugs out.
 
Great work. Having a folk lift is easy but nowhere near as much fun as a bunch of mates helping out.

About the wife thing, they all know you have way more fun with your jeeps than you do with them and man it burns them up. That's why (mostly) they get angry when you're spending ("wasting") free time wrenching or driving around.

Today was a planned wrenching day. Tomorrow is reserved for family and chores. Gotta split it up. At least now the assembly can take place in the garage so I can go out there in the evenings and on cold or wet weekends. Hopefully things will speed up.

I just hope I remember where things go. I am sure I will be asking.
