OE 85 Scrambler Renegade Stripes

Another step, maybe too far.....

Side Rails, I have always loved them but they didn't come on the 85 so I have stayed away. Any reason not to add them since I am abandoning any hope of stock?

Since yours was a forestry/government Jeep, did it show the paint code as Olympic White "9B" or does it show something else on the data tag on the firewall?

I would also like to know. The Forestry jeep I had was a special paint code for a green color. Like CC or something like that.

Definitely personal preference on the rails. I love them. On my 1985 restoration, I was trying to stay "factory" for my 1985 restoration so did not install them (although it definitely has other "deviances"). You should do what you like. If I restored any other year, I would have put the rails.

Another factory photo from 85:

That white Scrambler Laredo looks to be the poster child for the 85's. Several photos of it in the 1985 dealer brochure - including that one. Copied the Scrambler emblem placement on my 1985.

It is but you got to be careful. The marketing material often was not 100% correct. Or I should say was not 100% the same as what would hit the production line. For example I have never seen black decal over the Jeep stamp with that graphics package. It's always grey. Anyways I am nit picking. Jersey showed me some of the inconsistencies and now I catch them all the time!

Yes, and if I was to bet the farm on it, I would say most Laredo scramblers didn't have that emblem there when they went off the line for 1985. Unfortunately we don't have many original 85s to look at it, but do we have one that shows it many years later? I am zero for 1 on the one I have, it never was there...And it looks kinda like an afterthought to me, but a current thought for the early marketing photos. that picture is stamped August of 1984 for the record.

One more 1985 point in history for ya'al, from the same salesmans guide :

I wouldn't do that. I think I stated that above too

I didn't mean like a "You suck!" but more of a "that's not correct".

Of course, nobody here does that unless a seller does the whole "This is a completely unmolested, original Jeep" and then posts up a franken Jeep with fleck paint and a SBC

Here is my 1985 when I bought it, no stripes and I added stripes in second photo... I know they are not 1985 stripes, I like this style and they can be removed if someone wants 1985 stripes when they buy it...

I like the look - I'm considering putting them on my '82. The lower stripes look like they have a greenish tint, or is that just the picture? where did you get them?

My 84 came with 85 Laredo stripes. I took them off. I personally did not like the look at the back. I don't think mine was a Laredo based on the dash, but since almost nothing on mine is original, who knows.

I do like the stripes on yours rubclt. Very nice.

Chris,

Thanks for the pictures and thanks to everyone else who is helping. Here is what I think I am going to do.

Factory color white paint (still need to check to see the code on the firewall but whatever it was is what it will be)
Blue Renegade stripe kit for an 85'
Black Hard top
Black door appliqués
Black front bumper (could use more help here, I am in a debate with the body man who used to work for Jeep in the 80's if the front bumper was more of a flat black or a semi-gloss black)
White factory rear step bumper with black bumper ends (I got my ends from Kim so they are aluminum but I am going to have them power coated to look as much like the plastic as possible)
Factory silver / aluminum rocker covers
Factory side steps (black power coated)
Factory chrome wagon wheels - 5
Black dash pad, black carpet and black hard door panels
Bone seats (factory seats with the embossed CJ on them)
The AC system that it came with (guessing dealer installed / American Air)
Factory AM/FM radio
Dash appliqué

I know I am not pure stock but I am going to use it as my daily driver so the fuel injection / header really help improve reliability.

Many thanks again to every for helping me with this project, I will post some after pictures when it's done!

Tom

Sigh. Another one that makes me wonder if it's my old baby. My 85 got (stupidly) sold back in the late 90s. The body, frame, interior etc were amazing. I had stripped it (foolishly) and couldn't finish it. It sat under a tarp at my Moms house in Georgia until I listed it in the autotrader. Some father/son came and bought it and towed it away never to be seen again. I always wonder where it went.

JeepDreamer according to Carfax this 1985 has always been in SC, I am third owner... You can be the fourth :)

Lol. Guess I can scratch another of the list of maybe. And while I'd love to have it... it probably costs money. And since I have so little that my own (current) Scrambler is for sale... ☹️
