These are the brackets that are on my CJ8. It takes two (2) of each bracket per bumper. Are these the right ones?

I made drawings of these and started getting quotes.

So far the first quotes gives the pricing as follows:
- $80.00/set plus shipping if we buy enough for 10 Jeeps.
- $65.00/set plus shipping if we buy enough for 50 Jeeps.

How many people would be interested in buying a set?

Here are two pics from an NOS White CJ-8 Bumper kit...hope this helps to illustrate the components that are part of the entire kit.
:jeep:

Can you post a scan of the instruction? JWjeep sold me a bumper and has had the brackets made. Sold me a set for $30...

Thanks for the pics of the brackets. That is very helpful! I did not know that those other brackets were part of the kit. I could make drawings for those also if they are in my Jeep.

I agree....would you mind posting the instructions?

Who is JWjeep? Is that a member here or a store?

Thanks!

Thanks for the info on JWjeep.

Also, I looked under my Jeep and found another bracket that has only four holes. Now to my surprise that bracket was attached to the frame with only one bolt on the frame side and it had a really really thick washer on one side. Is the way it supposed to be from factory? Is it supposed to be attached to the frame with one or two bolts?

I found on another post a picture showing one bolt and some type of spacer through the frame but no really really thick washer. What is correct?

Based on the pictures from 82nd I am missing one of the brackets that mount to the frame rails. Are the four brackets that attach to the frame (hug the frame) the same or are they 2 of kind and another 2 of a different kind?

Any additional info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Parts Manual

Here is what is shown in the parts manual for the rear step bumper. Maybe this is where the idea for truck nuts came from.

Thanks! I see now how the additional brackets work. How does that bolt up to the rear frame though?

The rear crossmember would be between the 2 sets of brackets. In the parts pages right before that one it shows the bolts that would go through the rear crossmember that are not shown in that one.

Thanks for posting that. My service manual does not have any info on the rear bumper.

I made drawings for the chassis brackets and will send them out for quote. My Jeep is missing the outboard brackets that bolt to the chassis, so I measured on the Jeep and assumed that the bend radius is equal to the one on the inboard brackets. Is that a correct assumption?

Does anyone have the dimensions for the spacers? My Jeep is missing those. It looks like one inserts the spacer into the frame through the oversized holes on the inboard sides. These spacers will keep the frame from getting crushed when the bolts are torqued.

Thanks!

Try moving the one you have to the outboard position, it just has line up with the holes in the frame and the crossmember. The frame looks like it attaches at a right angle and the holes seem close.

I should have one I can dig out tomorrow from a tow bar mount. They use the same bracket, at least it is mounted the same way.

I did try moving the one I have to the outboard position and the holes do not line up with the slots on the cross member.

If you have the spacers it would be great to know their length and outside diameter.

Thanks!

Here they are.......I put it in the hole and has a bit of play. I believe you could get 3/4 inch diameter and it would fit.

New price

So far the new quote for the kit of 8 brackets (painted) and 2 spacers (painted) without hardware is around $130.00 plus shipping if we buy enough for 10 Jeeps. A kit with Grade 5 hardware would be around $150.00 plus shipping.

I have another quote coming in next week.

Anyone interested?

I may be interested. Are they the same thickness steel as the originals?

Rear Step Bumper Brackets

I just got a prototype set of all the brackets made from my drawings, except for the spacers. They look like originals. Once I make the spacers, I will get some bolts and take pictures off and on the Jeep.

$150 bucks seems a little steep for just some hunks of metal. I am a bit cheap but can also see the reasoning behind buying for time & effort's sake. It also depends on the skill & tools available to the person needing the brackets. Personally I would make my own if I were to go that route. It would require a torch to heat the metal for bending & careful measurements so the holes line up. But then if I could find a set cheap enough, $50-100, it is not worth my time to make them. $150 is a maybe but getting toward the expensive side inmy opinion- that that is just what it is- opinion. I guess it is not too bad & any remanufactured ones would have to me same as OEM for a proper restore. The 85 Scrambler I am in process of buying already has an oftermarket- looks like SMittybuilt with a 2 inch receiver. I will not be that concerned about keeping to OEM but if that is the goal...... my 2 cents.....
