How do you tell when your jeep was made? Not the year, but how far down the production line. I'm sure it's in the Vin#, but where?

Don't know if this helps but I read this somewhere...
JEEP VIN info:
----------------------
Example-

1JCBN88EXDT
1 = United States
J = Jeep Corporation
C = Multi-Purpose Vehicle
B = Engine, GM, 4 Cyl, 151 CID
N = Trans/tcase, 5 Speed, Manual Transmission, Floor Shift, Part Time Transfer Case
88 = CJ-8, 2 Door, Open Body
E = Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) Rating: 4150#
X = A single number, or the letter X, or a check mark, is used to verify the transcription of the vehicle identification number.
D = 1983
T = Plant code: Toledo, Ohio, USA

The last six digits of the serial number after the "T" (Toledo,OH plant) were assigned as the CJ-5's, CJ-7's and CJ-8's came down the assembly line. Therefore, #5842 is the 5,842nd CJ built at the Toledo,OH plant during that year's production.
