I found this box plugged into the factory wiring harness and am in the process of installing a Painless kit. There is no provision for this in the harness and I can’t seem to positively ID it on the wiring diagrams. The Jeep is an 81 with the stock 258 6 cyl. I am assuming since it’s not taken into consideration on the Painless kit, it’s not needed. But my personal curiosity has gotten the better of me

Control box for the Sol-Vac solenoid mounted to the factory carburetor. It will increase the idle speed slightly when the AC is turned on, and after a restart. Once Jeep went to the full blown computer controlled carburetor in '83 these boxes disappeared because the carburetor computer controlled the Sol-Vac.
 
Thank you, I tried a hand full of image searches and whatnot, even tried an AI search. Most of them came up with that it is a voltage regulator. Since that is inside the alternator, I knew that was out.
I can say for sure that I don't need this then. No A/C on the 8, and there is no solenoid mounted to my carburetor.
