Samml nock in engie block

I have the 258 engine and it has recently been rebuilt. the knock sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment closes to the cab of the vehicle. Sorry I am still learning a lot about the scram and if anyone could give me a few thoughts on what it might be that would be great.

Is it constant? Does it change with engine speed? Does it do when sitting still or driving? Answers to these questions help narrow it down some.

also is it a knock or tick... lifters tend to have a tick, a knock is usually something worse

Is it an automatic? I bought a 4.0 cherokee that had a knock, it was a loose torque convertor.
