Shocks

I am going with the advice received regarding my steering stabilizer question. In replacing the front end parts I decided to go with 4 new shocks also. Keeping in mind on road 95% of the time with stock suspension and 31's any recommendations on shocks?

Thanks,

Tom

Rancho RSX..they have an inertia valve in them that softens the expansion joints and washboard roads better than anything on the road..this is technology that actually works..

Scott,

You would recommend the RSX as opposed to the 9000's.

Is there a reason for that. Could you comment on the differences between the two.

I am thinking of new shocks for mine and trying to figure out what is best and what actually works compared to the Hype.

rsx are much better on the road..because they are stiff for handling..but the inertia valve opens when u hit a bump...i like the 9000s cause u can adjust them soft for off road..but if it is a daily driver...definately the RSX...when u got ur tires aired down..shocks are not that important(and i make em..lol)..so i would go with what works on the road and that is definately the rsx..i have them on on my rigs.....as a side note..the rsx was originally designed for the cherokee..and works perfect on them..

I have the adjustable MX6s, they give a very smooth ride on low settings and can firm up well with it at number 8 setting.

I have had good luck with Monroe... Can't remember which model, but they have held up well.

I like my bilstein 5100s really well but without the sway bar I might need a bit stiffer shock, maybe an adjustable. But the Bilsteins have been excellent

Hey, I know this sounds like a silly question but where is a good place to get the Rancho RSX shocks for an un-lifted '8? I have checked 5 of the usual online Jeep parts places and find several listings for the newer Jeeps and for lifted CJ's. I know I must be overlooking the obvious but any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Rancho is owned by Monroe. You should be able to order them at Advanced Auto (I know they were an option thrown out by them when I bought my shocks)...

if it is an 81 the numbers are rsx17005 front and rsx17006 rear

if it is an 82-86 the number are rsx17007 front and rsx17008 rear

Thanks, Scott. I checked Oreilly's online but the rsx 17008 for the rear gives no results. I have not dropped by the store in person, yet. The rsx 17007 gives a result on their website...are you sure on the numbers? Not so much questioning it from you, I just want to make sure on the numbers when I go to the store and ask. I found a spec listing on another site and the "17008" rears seem to be about 1" longer than the "17007" fronts...is this correct?

Sincerely,

i did not pull the specs..i just looked in the catalog...and those are the right numbers for 0 to 1 inch lift

i was looking at the old catlog..just looked at our latest catalog and theyare not listed anymore...remind me monday and i will check to see if we have then in the distribution center....other wise..i will look at the catalog and figure out an alternate shock that will work for you...the numbers i gave u are correct..it is possible oreilleys have them in their warhouse...i would definately go by there and see.
