Storage Boxes... Who's using what?

Wasn't sure where to post this really... Not tops, doors, or racks... Boxes are close to racks I guess... Anyways my folks got me a storage box for the back of my Scrambler for Christmas and I'm not sure it's quite what I want... They saved the receipt, so before I try mounting it or scratching it up (hence non-returnable) I figured I'd get some other opinions/options on what you all are using.
The one I'm potentially using is a Contico TuffBin. It's composite and lockable and has holes for padlocks as well. What I don't like so much is the height. It sticks up a tad higher than the bedsides than I would like but maybe it'd grow on me.

For the price ($30 after rebate) it's pretty sturdy... I'd rather have an aluminum one but wasn't planning on spending that much cash on one yet.

I was using a plastic foot locker I picked up at a surplus store. That had the room I wanted but was not sturdy enough. I ended up getting a used trailer box from a guy in my local club. This is metal and includes a cam lock. It does not hold as much but it does look better. I will add a pic in a bit. It does sit lower than the bed sides. But as I said, I do wish it held more. I had to take stuff and put it inside the cab if I wanted to take it with me somewhere. And on a trip, I had to add a crate to hold some extra fluids I wanted to take along.

I had a friend that worked in a truck body shop build me a flat tool box that covers the whole bed with a pull out drawer that comes out the tail gate. Next time I get the Scrambler down off the rack I will get a picture of it. The advantage of a pull out drawer is you can have things on top of it (like camping gear) and still access the drawer.

Dain... I have been considering some trailer boxes and even some underbody semi style boxes. I probably won't be carrying a ton of stuff.....yet!

Don... That sounds really cool! Probably a bit out of my price range right now but it would be nice to be able to put large items on top.

beautiful Jeep Cpittman, like Don, I have a full length drawer in mine, it's homebuilt so sort of crude but generally works well. Its wheel well high so I have a flatfloor and my spare fits on the roll bar as stock (if 35s were stock, lol). All my camping gear then has a flat floor to ride on with tracks for adjustable tie downs to keepit fromfalling out....

Agree that it is a beautiful Jeep.

What are you planning on taking with you in whatever you decide on? Recovery gear? Camping gear? What are any size requirements? A big jug if antifreeze, for example, may not fit in the drawer style? Also, is it stuff that you plan to carry around all of the time? Just questions that might help you answer the original question.

Thanks for the replies and complements on my Scrambler. I would probably be carrying some recovery gear, fluids, misc. basic tools, some emergency equipment all the time but it would be nice to have a little spare room for other occasional odds and ends. I'd like to get something that would pretty much fill the space behind a rear seat (that I may get in the future) but mount it behind the bulkhead for now.

Letchcore... I think my dad found this one at Menards (not sure if they've made it nationwide yet) on sale from $70 down to $40 then got a $10 rebate...they're about $80 on Amazon.

Wow. That was a great price. It will be hard to beat it or even come close.

How much room is there between the tailgate and the back of a rear seat in the basic stock configuration?
I know the basic width between wheel wells but as far as depth from the tailgate to seat back...

A Tuffy box would fit tailor made for a Jeep. They are pretty expensive (more than I wanted to pay), so I waited patiently and found one on CL that was used but in really good shape. It's got a large capacity but no taller than the side of the tub.
Not bad for $100.

The box is sturdy enough to attach tie-down anchor points to the lid or sides (I strap a cooler on top when I go camping).

I bent up a cooler holder for mine.

Can someone measure the distance between the tailgate and the back seat so I know the max depth that will work?

I had to offset my rear seat forward about 2" as I recall when I had the stock rear seat installed.

Neither of these are cheap! But Weather Guard Tool boxes makes some neat pull out drawers. ARB makes some nice pull out drawers. Like I said not cheap!!!

Fingers crossed! I'm making an arctic trek to go look at one of these today! I'm hoping it turns out to be worth it cause we have just shy of 2 hours to drive and that's without the wintery mix that's forecasted this afternoon....
