Anyone have any tips on removing the factory decals? I plan on using a heat gun. These are the original decals, not worried about the paint. I was going to remove them before sending it to be media blasted.
3M eraser wheel. Easiest way to so it. You will have thicker paint under the old decals. If not properly sanded down you will see the remnants do the old decals under the new paint.
Aircraft stripper will get the decal and the paint in one shot. But it is messy.
If you go to the automotive paint store. They sell 3M Wood-grain remover and then adhesive remover. It is kind of a 2 part thing but will not damage the paint. Spray the first and scrape decal off with plastic scraper or credit card. Then follow up with adhesive remove and wipe clean with paper shop towel.
Thanks guys, I ended up using a heat gun. They came off much easier than I expected. The only casualty was I had bought a plastic razorblade holder/ scraper thing. I was almost done when I noticed it had somewhat melted. I limped it through the rest but my 3 dollar scraper was toast. Lol. Now just removing a few minor things and she will be ready for media blasting.
