Two piece axles

I'm on the fence about replacing my two piece axles with 1 piece versions. Has anybody had luck with just heating the flange and using a heavy duty puller to get to the axles without using the hydraulic press method. I'm pretty sure my '84 has a wheel cylinder leak and not an axle seal leak. I'm converting to disc brakes and want to confirm the leak prior to disassembly. Thanks in advance.

I changed both rear wheel cylinders on my stock axles without pulling anything but the brake drums. Are you talking about pulling the shafts from the axle or pressing the bearings on with the press? I thought after removing the flange bolts the shaft and bearing should come out. That said all of my stuff is full float and its been a while since i've worked on semi float stuff. I do have a pair of 81 NT axles in Moore with newish brakes if interested.

Thanks, sdsupilot, but mine is a widetrack. My goal had been to break down the brakes without removing the axles. Oddly enough, both sides appear to have the same amount of brake dust and are bone dry. I am leaning toward the fitting on the brake line due to the wetness of the brake backing plate. However, I hate to break the seal on this axle to do the disc conversion if it's not necessary. I will probably just go with one piece axles and make everything brand new. Just hate the cost. Thanks. again.
