Hello All:

I recently purchased a 1981 Scrambler that has the chrome Warn rear step bumper. The passenger side plastic end cap is cracked. I’m planning to attempt to repair the crack from the inside.

Has anyone else here attempted this and what methods work?

What type of plastic are the end caps made of?

From the picture of your rear bumper from the front it looks like a factory bumper. Kim Dawson on this forum makes aluminum copies that are said to be spot on.

Here a pic of the damaged part.

I do like the idea of an aluminum reproduction that could be paint matched to resemble black plastic.

These are the ones the forum memeber sells through eBay. Might be able to buy them through he forum?

Contact Kim here, his prices on eBay are slightly higher than selling directly here. He also wraps steering wheels and grab bars with leather to replace the worn components on a Laredo model.

I’d carefully remove the factory end caps and either sell them to Dennis Collins or keep them in a box. They are like gold.

You have a very nice looking cj-8. Post up the bracket parts you need to fix the engine accessories and I’ll bet someone here will have the parts you need.

I bought a set from Kim today. Very quick response. I will likely offer the plastic end caps to Dennis since I’m doing the mechanical restoration to drive it and enjoy it.

I’m not a purest. I have no delusions of my Scrambler going to some collector’s museum. It’s my intent to put some miles on the replacement motor that came out of a 1983 at some point in the truck’s history.

Thankfully the body restoration done by the PO is not horrible and the interior is really nice. That saved me a ton of work.

My wife and I are even entertaining a trek to Texas to have Dennis tell me what I already know, I have a great driver, not a collection piece. I plan to have Collins Bros install the hood graphics as a cherry on the top moment after the mechanical is finished.

I found a repro new PS bracket from Southwest Speed that looks to be a great alternative.

I was able to source the no-ac v-belt version of the alternator bracket on E-Bay, but I have no idea if have the correct hardware nor what the correct hardware should be. I need to post in the engine sun-forum to see if others can help me identify what hardware I need.
