Windshield Question

I have a quick question about the scrambler windshield. This is my first jeep with no roll bars attached to the windshield. The first time I drove 70 miles an hour with no top and no doors I noticed the windshield had a lot of movement in it. Is this normal for CJ windshields or do I need to do something to my supports to stop this from happening?

First thing I would check is the 4 bolts on each hold down plate tight ? It's the plate that has the round turnable knob on them. And also are the knobs tight ? :wave:
 
(2 bolts per plate, 4 total)

Yours should be torx t40 on a scrambler also
 
I don't think the knobs are tight. I will check that out and the bolts when I get home. I am getting ready to put some new full doors on and will more than likely have to adjust the windshield anyway.

A little bit of bounce is to be expected. If it's real bad then something is loose. Check the bolts and knobs as suggested. Also take a look at your hinges to make sure those bolts are tight. If that all looks good, then it could be the hinge/pin may be worn out and allowing movement (aftermarket hinges are notorious for being loose right out of the box).
 
Could it be that the knobs at the bottom of the inside plate are stripped or worn out??
 
Dumb question but it's not a fiberglass windshield by any chance? If it was it would have a lot of movement at freeway speed.
 
Possible... if the knobs tighten down then they should be okay. If they were striped, you would turn and turn without getting tight.
 
No, it is an original windshield.

The first thing I checked were the knobs and of course they were not tight. They tightened right up! I am hoping that fixed the problem. When I do the adjusting to fit my new doors I will make sure it is all tight and hopefully that will be the end of it.

You may want to look at this post (see #5) on proper windshield angle.

It is the first step for proper windshield positioning for tops and doors.
Once this angle is correct you should adjust the door hinges and pins to match the angle of the windshield and body/top.
 
I do, with a 330 hp chevy 350 she likes to fly. Unfortunately the poor th400 trans is roaring with it.
