worn Laredo seats - what are my options?

would love some feedback on what to do with my recent purchase.

  1. could an interior guy mend these and they look decent?
  2. tear them apart and sell the good panels? as you can see the passenger seat and rear bench are in great shape sans a few areas
  3. could this material even take new stitching or would it fall apart?
  4. any other ideas?

This is my suggestion. Take them to a good upholstery shop and tell them what you want. I think the white stripes can be salvaged and reused. Finding similar black material shouldn't be too hard. They won't be exactly like original but if you have all 3 done they will be good. Passenger seat may be salvageable but it won't match because the driver seat will need new material.
 
I wasn't planning on picking these up but I needed seat brackets and asked if I could take the brackets off these. Guy didn't want to split them up and gave me a stupid low price on everything so I grabbed them. My thought is that if I could salvage them I could use them in the '81 and move my new bestop seats to the '82.

There are numerous upholstery shops / marine shops near me so I think I may at least get a quote. If I could get these fixed cheaper than new seats that would be cool. Not too concerned with originality but at least want them to look the part. At the same time however I didn't want to bastardize these if it made more sense to sell them as parts. Thinking that the Laredo look would look good in the gray '81.

Last resort I could sell them on ebay like the link above as repair material. Thanks guys!

Any update on your solution to this problem? I'm in the same boat with a set of black Laredo seats and am curious what a fair price for an upholstery shop to redo will be.
 
I am going through the same options for a cosmetic restoration that I will most likely resell.

1) One upholstery shop in Dallas, quote me about $400 per seat for creating new covers using the existing stripes, rebuilding the foam and installing the covers. Haven't tried a second quote but that was from a well-reviewed shop near me. All in, that would be about $1,200. Anybody think that is high or low?
2) On the Lseats above, I have talked to them and gotten their leather swatches. Their Off White and Silver Grey options for stripes weren't that close of a match. $300 for the front pair and $300 for the back. I was also concerned on using leather in a Jeep. However, they have a faux leather option and suggested that for $398 for all 3 seats. Upholstery shop above quoted me $125 per seat for foam rebuild and installing third party covers. Looking at around $800 in total then. Plus, I could re-sell the original covers.
3) George's covers are $1,500 but he may give you a 10% discount if you order direct and not through Ebay. After discount and then install, total would run $1,750.

I'm leaning toward the Lseats only because: (1) I'm interested in seeing their product; and (2) I will likely sell this Jeep. If I hate them, I could try to resell the covers and recoup some of the money. Then, I would go the upholstery shop route.

since this I have bought more Laredo seats (one MINT rear folding seat) and have decided to start selling it all. At the end of the day they are worth more sold than they are to me fixed and put into either one of my 8s
 
I have used several oem seats to repair others, and have switched the carpet onto near mint passenger sides to make a front pair. I also used rear seats that may have an issue for the lower pleated area. My upholstery guy in NJ charges $100 min to do one panel swap out, meaning that he has to take the seat cover off the foam, and once in there, its pro rated per panel. It has been $100-$200 per seat I have done. For a resold jeep tho, I am thinking what Deluke is about to do is going to be a good way to go. Anxious to see his results :wave:
 
I plan to have my stuff listed here soon. I have 5 front seats (3 passenger 2 driver) and two rear seats plus other Laredo goodies.
 
I'll be in Charolette for the next 3 months for work. I'd be interested in some Laredo seats if your actually going to sell them.
