Upper A-pillar repair panel

Does anyone make that small semi-trianglar bodyside part that welds right below the windshild frme/door hinge on the A-pillar?

I know, probably not. So tell me, how has everyone else out there fixed this, and the reinforcements under it?

I'd like to make it look original, but I suppose making it structually sound in more important.

I know I can just weld in some metal, but I dont know whats all under it. I have never torn that area apart befor.

thx

Did you ever figure out what to do with this part? I am trying to buy a Scrambler right now and the one I have decided on has rust right there. The only part that is rusty and I can't figure out how I am going to repair it.

Any news?

Jeff

I checked Classic Enterprises website & they list a Front Side Panel Cowl Reinforcement but is it for older CJ2 & 3 & M38. But it moight be modified to fit a later CJ.

It is about 1/3 down from top of page. Also have some cool CJ-8 stuff.
I thought I might have also seen the cowl reinforcement support on another website for a company that build reproduction parts but could not find it. :)

I cannot find that thing anywhere :( It is the one piece I will need to replace right away when my Scrambler gets here...once I figure out how to pay the seller.

If someone comes up with an actual part number or a industry standard name, please post!

This is the piece I think we are all talking about here...right? I emailed Classic to ask them if they had any idea where to get one of these panels. I didn't see one on thier site.

Hey! I emailed Classic Enterprises to see if they knew what that part is and if they have a replacement.

They just emailed back saying that they do not know of anyone who makes that in a reproduction part.

So...off to browse Jeeps being sold for parts and junk yards.

Good to know! Must be the ONLY part not reproduced for Jeeps.

AHhhh I was mistaken (maybe too much eggnog!). I thought you ment the support tpart behind that one. No I do not know of anyone who makes it. I already have a parts Scrambler I will need to pull at least one side off to repair the tub I am working on for the Resurrection Scrambler rebuild. :banghead:

Looking at a post by WillyT "My Turn" one of the pictures shows this part exposed due to him removing the dash and windshield. It looks like that little formed stanchion is actually a single piece that runs from one side of the Jeep to the other and is what the dash mounts to and that the cowl is attached to.

Any of you guys that have done a windshield frame replacement or a dash replacement have a better perspective? I do not have the Jeep in question actually here yet or I would go out and take some pictures.

Here is WillyT's picture. (Hope you do not mind Willy!)

Possibly

Looking in to making some possibly. We'll keep you posted. :fingerscrossed:

You are correct. The cowl is spot welded to this piece, it goes all the way across, and the windshield hinges also bolt to it.
Mine had an antenna mounted to it by the PO. It had some rust also from the hole he made. I was able to repair it by welding in new metal. A lot of work, but easier than replacing the whole piece.

There is a guy named Jay Newsome at JeepSalvage in Statesboro GA that will have a clean used part. I've used him before. Good prices. It's either Jeep Salvage or Salvage Jeep. Has hundreds of Jeeps on his property, very knowledgable about them, too.

That is awesome Toby! I don't need one but I think it is great that the folks on this board, like yourself, are so helpful and seemingly go out of their way to use the resources at their disposal to help out fellow Scrambler/CJ owners. Bravo!

That does sound like a lot of work and a welder would be essential. ;) From what I understand, the Jeep I am attempting to purchase has this one spot of rust on it where the current owner had installed an antenna. Oops! Seems like a bad idea. ;) I'll go with a stock antenna and install it during the repainting process. Ugh, I hate waiting on payment arrangements and shipping. I'd really like to be tearing into a Scrambler right now. :)

Agreed, that is pretty awesome Toby! Sounds like there are at least three of us on the board here that could use this part. I wish I had had a "Jeep Support Group" like this when I had my CJ7 back in the 90's. I could have fixed things instead of sold it to someone who then converted it into a YJ essentially. Dunno why they even bothered with my old Jeep.

Thanks to all you guys for helping me keep some sanity and perspective in this search. I look forward to continuing to contribute, but soon with an actual Jeep to use/work on/enjoy!:woot:

Im in need of both drive side and passenger side a pillar patch panels. I was just gunna go to the junk yard and find a yj and cut out what I needed. But if I can get new I would be interested.

There is a company that sells the entire cowl (including this piece). But, shipping is pricey and they won't separate the part out... So, I deleted their bookmark. I will see if I can find it again.

"A" Piller Patch

Talked to my friend Brian today and he is working on the patches. A "Flat Panel" will be ready soon and he is having a company making the dies for his press for the "Original style" stamped set. There will be a difference in price, but he is working on making it as affordable as possible and still be a quality replacement worthy of our Scramblers.
