What he said^^^^^. I was stuck rooning everyone's weekend when my 7 was "intermittently" failing. The last straw came when it conked out on the beach with the tide coming in. I had read about dodgey pickup coils on JF and went back and pulled the diz out of the OL. Threw it into the 7 and boom fired right up! It was the pickup coil all along. Anyways I got the Aforementioned DUI and it sits happy in the 7 now. Cold starts are a breeze.

I installed the DUI in my CJ 8 a few years back and I swear it starts before I turn the key now. There is no such thing as a cold start anymore.

What is the difference between a DUI and the HEI distributor that I have? Is it a brand or a set up? Because from what I read, it sounds like exactly what I already have just that mine does not say DUI on the cover.

DUI is a brand. Good quality stuff. First to bring an HEI to the market for non GM applications. I have heard of cheap "chinese import" HEI's eating up cam gears, something with the distributor gear being too hard.

Car Show is officially in the books... got to keep one of the banners I designed for hanging in the garage...

Make sure you have full voltage to the power wire on the HEI or any distributor for that matter. Also check the voltage while you are cranking the motor. If you have a significant drop in voltage while you are cranking then you may have a bad power connection. You can run a temporary jumper from the battery to the positive wire on the distributor to see if it makes a difference. Be sure it's in neutral first. These old jeeps have 16 and 18 gauge wire in most cases, I run 12 ga wire in mine through a relay. Most HEI's require 13 to 14 volts to operate correctly. Your alternator provides that will it is running. I think poor wiring is to blame for many of the electrical problems we face in older cars.

Can some one advise gazzo of the type of place this is lol... HF

I will sum it up in that you will be able to use the winch 1x at full 5000 lb power... the 2nd time, the exponential decay starts to occur... and by the 10th time, you are lucky to be pullling your kids bike out of a mud pit...

close enough?
