Mikes 81 mongrel scrambler

Nothing wrong with Plum Crazy Purple, my `Cuda will be a shade of it, not exact, but pretty close.

Coming along great. You'll have it done in no time. You going to hold off till the weather warms up to paint? Or can you heat the garage?

I've got a heated garage, we're going to undercoat the frame and underside first, then monster line or line x the interior. Then paint. Not looking for perfect paint, she's gonna get brush striped in no time with the trails we have up here.

My plan is to break it in at Moab, EJS, got a bunch of us from Alberta headed there. 5 of us on 40" tires, the others are all JKU tho.

Floors in in the rear

You guys are making great progress.
May have missed my previous questions,
What is the thickness/gauge of the side panels?
Also, would flipping the tailgate hinges line the tailgate level with the new raised bed?
I know it's just a minor detail but it looks like you are into details in the build.
Can't wait to see the flares.

Sorry!! I'd meant to address that!! She's 10 gauge steel, a little thinner than 1/8", and I'm definitely looking at how to make the gate line up with the floor!! We've got the tub as low as we can, without cutting frame crossmembers, but the tailgates still lower than the floor. I'll shoot a pic

Thanks. I could tell it was definitely thicker than replacement panels. Almost like armor without the weight.
I know that flipping the hinges will raise the tailgate up, just not sure how much.
I've seen several "professional" restorations where they were installed upside down and the tailgate was above the factory bed and the tailgate was no longer level because the cables were too long.

Looking at it, it should hit bang on. Shorten up the cables, and it'll sit level. Forgot to take a pic!

If the 10 ga. plate was AR plate it would be light armor plated.

I like the way you kept the back fender wells narrow leaving more room in the bed. Love your build.

I have a full cage that'll be going in, bolted thru to the floor. I want to run 4 Acura NSX seats, so I need the width. All 4 seats will have 4 point harnesses too. Want my kids comfortable over a day of wheeling!

4 NSX seats? Wow. Are those readily available? I bet everyone will be comfortable in those.

The CJ 8 body is now mounted to the JKU frame. Time to weld in the new floor, and then get the drivetrain into her. We're going to build a removable tranny tunnel once it's all in. And my boys are both hounding me to paint it plum crazy purple.
I have a question for you. On pic #4 you have the floor frame (upper floor) spot welded to the side wall of the tub before and rear of the wheel well but don't have a piece (of 1' x 1' tube) going down to the lower floor frame (where body mount is). I know if you weld the floor plating to the floor frame it will strengthen it but without the piece going down to the lower frame do you think in hard core wheeling the body will flex and either pull that loose or bend the skin?. Not knit picking (you know more and can do more than I ever can) was just curious (learning experience for me). Thanks and the jeeps incredible. Can't wait to see completed.

Sorry, RSX. Not the NSX!! There's enough stupid 20 something vin diesel wanna be's around here that there's a new one being parted out every couple of months. And they are a wicked seat, designed by recaro for Acura, I believe

No worries!! Valid question for sure!! Since we will be doing a kick plate down, we will be welding that solid to the side, so I don't feel a need for another chunk of tube there. I'll find out if it'll hold up!! ;)

11 gauge is .125 inches or 1/8th so I believe your 10 gauge is a little thicker at .134 and 12 gauge would be a little thinner.
