My De-Rustification Project

Here is the beer. No pizza. That will be next Sunday if the weather is decent enough to to move the engine. But I did offer hot cocoa to my friend.

If I had a bigger garage, I would have both in the garage and I could work longer and more often. Grrrrrr.

There 's no fun way to get those darn roll bar bolts out. I sprayed mine every day for two weeks with Blaster. That let me get about 1/2 of them out, then heated the rest up which got more out. The last three I just cut the heads off with the torch.

Since all of the ones I have been able to get to snapped, I am not going to waste time. Cutting will be done.

If you get the nuts cherry red, they will come out. Given that you haven't rounded out the torx cavity yet [emoji6]

No torx bolts on mine. And I am not sure I want to torch that close to the fiberglass tub.

So I got some grade 8 bolts (and nuts and washers) for the motor mounts (attaching to the frame) this morning. But Fastenol only had four bolts, so I need to check Lowe's on the way home.

I am still planning on moving the engine and tranny this Sunday after the "snowpocolypse" tomorrow and Saturday. I don't know how many local Jeepers will be coming due to the weather, but we will see. Those that do will be rewarded (I have reached out to a bunch on my local club forum). So any Scrambler nuts are welcome to come by. I doubt I will get the body moved this Sunday as well though. That will probably wait. I still need to get the roll bar bolts removed and disconnect the fuel filler hoses.

Well, the blizzard delayed the engine and tranny moving. So I am hoping to get it done next weekend. I still have a little more to dig out in order to get to the driver's side.

This was Saturday morning. It was still coming down.

This year it's a little backward. We have a little over 8" this year (22" below the norm) and you have more in one storm than we had this winter.

Yeah. The official total for Ashburn was 36 inches. I hope that is all we get.

Well, I am hoping to pull the motor and transmission this weekend. If any of you local Scrambler owners want to come by and lend a hand, let me know. I am not sure yet if it will be Saturday or Sunday, but that will depend on who is available and when.

The driveway space around and behind the Scrambler are cleared now. So we should be good. And the weather should not be too bad. Fingers crossed.

So, with the help of cdvcj8, jims chop shop and a few guys from my local club, we made progress.

Got the motor and tranny moved, replaced the clutch and broke the roll bar and body bolts so that the body can be moved another day. Thanks guys for coming out today. I really appreciate the help.
