Hi everyone, I am new to Jeeps and CJ-8. I am trying to sort out this cowl tag. I have searched the internet with less than complete success. I am in particular interested in if it is a true Laredo. I am sure this has been talked to death here so my apologies in advance thanks John.

Vin decodes as a 85 Scrambler, 258, 5 speed manual, Olympic White paint, Black Highback Italian Purse seats. Most likely is a true Laredo.

This was the 1985 Scrambler Laredo that was on Ebay recently and just sold. Needs a lot of work but all there! Did you buy it?

That is me

Yes, I am the guy that probably paid way too much for that Scrambler! At least it looks mostly complete and is a Laredo. Most everything I have looked at under 10k is mostly junk. But hey now I am a Scrambler guy! BTW is here anyone traveling from Phoenix to Atlanta? I need a hand moving it here!

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the group!

That Scrambler is the twin for the factory Scrambler shown in promotional pictures and highlighted in the CJ brochure for 1985. I'm hoping you restore to factory original since that one is special (rare last year Scrambler and a Laredo), but to each his own! Enjoy it any way you want.

Good luck,

Thanks DeLuke, I didn't know that. Thank you. Yes I intend to keep it original! That is what drew me to this one in particular.

That is the truck I just bought.!

I wonder where it was its whole life, that seems to be an inordinate amount of rust for a Phoenix scrambler.

If you wind up looking for a new tub, pay attention to my build thread because I'm just beginning the resto-mod process using a Willys-Overland tub. The majority of the work will be starting this fall, but there's another member in Phoenix who's just started with a replitub as well.

Hope you're able to find a way to get it moved east, and enjoy the process!

You can find the 1985 brochures on Ebay and elsewhere. Also there might be some factory picture repro's on Ebay. Here is a pic of that Scrambler in a factory ad. It's cut from Phoenix Graphix site.
