Set out to do some engine work last night and found some interesting things...
Upon close inspection...
So, I knew it had a leak, I just wasn't sure why, but I had another oil pan, so swapped it out... fiberglass has no place on an oilpan pepole!
Ran some degreaser over it and some brake cleaner... needs a lot more cleaning and one of the holes on the valve cover doesn't line up, but all in all it is moving along... crank looked great, as did the rockers.
New oil pan shot... went with a one piece rubber gasket as well, so we will see how that works out.
Also, when the plastic valve cover was on there, the guy mentioned he couldn't get it to seal right... I don't have a picture of it, but it was missing the rear most bolt and the sides were hourglass shaped... literally hanging over the edge of the head... also, there wasn't a water pump gasket... so that I think explains the water leak.
We will get it all buttoned up and put it in the project for starters and then move onto the 304 when it gets rebuilt.

NOTE: This winter will be slower on progress than previous years, but something big is to come, so stay tuned... next summer should be a lot more productive...
