Not related to the motor swap, but I am excited as I picked up some axles today. Dana 44 rear and a locked dana 30. Also got a spartan locker for the rear from Mr. James Lupo. So I will be installing that soon.

The 35s will like the 4.56 gears a lot better than the 3.31s that are in it now.

Nice find. Looks like HD tie rod and drag link also.
Yep. That was a nice surprise when I showed up. Along with the warn 6 bolt hubs and a spare to go with them.

I opened the 44 to see what I was working with and drain the gear oil out. I will be building up the courage to pull out the gears and i stall the locker. You Tube here I come.

I also got my shock mounts in the mail. They will need to be welded onto the axle housing. Then I won’t have to worry about the posts on the u-bolt plates/skids that I got. Better option, right @bigwalton ?

OK
What locker are you going with? You only need to match gear backlash and have appropriate carrier preload into the case if you are using the same gears with a carrier swap. You just need to measure backlash prior to disassembly.

Those shock tabs are really nice. We use them here on almost every Jeep build. I am planning on getting some to use on my front 44 once I get some high clearance u bolt plates. Only thing to watch is the eye to eye length of the shock at ride height. May have to move the shock tower to match.

I had a Spartan, but turns out it was for an HD 44, so I ordered a TORQ locker last night. So it will reuse the carrier.

As for the shock mounts, I am looking forward to moving these up on the rear axle. But I was concerned about the shock length. I will check it out and replace shocks if needed.

So I went wheeling at Rausch Creek in PA last weekend. Had a blast. Got a lot of compliments on the sound of the 4.0s nice rumble at idle. A few thought I had a v8 in it 😂.

And I cannot believe I have been wheeling for 12 years without lockers. Man did they make crawling easy. I am so happy with this Scrambler.

Lol. Lockers good.

What exhaust are you running?

Stock manifold and pipes into an Auto Zone sourced round exhaust (magnaflow). Sounds too loud and drones at highway speed. But as it goes along the passenger side, the regular muffler was too close to the fuel line. My plan is to run it down the driver side with a normal muffler where it is supposed to go. But no rush on that yet.

I've been battling that drone through three different mufflers. Probably tried that same Magnaflow before the Cherry Bomb I have on there now (it's chambered and actually better!)

Think there's going to have to be an additional resonator of some sort.

Good to know it isn’t just me.

Are you running a cat? Even just a cheap high flow helps fight the drone a lot. I'm definitely going to put one back in when I redo my exhaust. I was definitely surprised by how much of a difference it made.

Had one, its guts were rattling, it's gone. That's why I assume I need a resonator of some flavor.

I am not. On the old drivetrain the cat was an empty shell anyway. I did not install a new one on this exhaust

Welp, I finally decided to check my MPG since doing this swap. It has no highway miles since the last fill up, and no wheeling or topping off with a gas can. Tried to do as legit of a number as I could. Turns out I am getting 10.84 MPG. Not stellar. But with 35” tires and 4.56 gears, maybe I shouldn’t complain. Unfortunately, my gas gauge reads empty after using just 10 of the 20 gallons in the tank. Better than the opposite I guess. But once I get to E (1/2 tank) I start to worry that I am going to run out. 🤷🏻‍♂️
