OBD1 4.0L/AW4 wiring diagrams??

yup, back at it again, seems to be a never ending project. I started all of this so long ago I'm lost most of my favorite wiring diagrams and notes for making a nice clean install.

Anyone have a favorite source, for their wiring diagrams? I've had a running 4.0L in my scrambler for years, but then i foolishly decided to add a AW4 behind it, now I've got a whole other mess. My Hesco wiring harness has been hacked and tampered with more than i care to look at it anymore and now I'm looking to replace it all and basically start over.

Heck I'd be willing to pay for a custom wire harness from a skilled tech, that can properly do OBD1 4.0L/AW4.

suggestions?

A lot of my bookmarks are now "404".

Here is a copy of a post from CJoffroad.com:
(I think it may be by "sevensandeights" on here)

4.0 swap.PNG

bigwalton did a swap with AW4 several years ago, I think most of the images have been lost, (he may have his spreadsheet still)

Also, "gr8dain" here purchased a wiring harness from "Hotwire" for his swap:

Yep. I had hotwire make mine for $900. They asked what accessories I had and would be keeping and thinned it all out for me. It was pretty much plug and play. Well worth the $$ I paid.

You can find a FSM for an OBD1 YJ on Jeep Wrangler YJ forum.
Title is: Jeep Wrangler YJ Factory Service Maunal (FSM) and Part Catalog..I just type in YJ FSM.
Has quite a bit of good info. I have been merging two engine harnesses into one on a TJYJ build that has been my entertainment over this winter. Prefer to utilize OEM harnesses over custom and I update my electrical prints as the harness is modded to my needs. Hardest anal part I deal with is I don't like to cut wires, so I research the type of connector and pins used to allow the use of different year stuff in one harness.

@FLCJ8 Is usually my go-to bookmark for wiring diagrammes.....
Like how the FSM breaks it all down. Easy to follow, all splice locations, connectors, circuit numbers, etc...very handy when modifying to different platforms.

I agree... I have posted links here to the FSM resources several times in the past.

I own an '83 CJ-8 (4.2l) and a '93 ZJ (4.0l) with the accompanying paper FSM's that is slated to go through your same process.
I like the winter idea.

I ran into the same trouble with a lot of my links, 404. I get it, this is getting to be an older swap, but dang never expected the information to disappear.

On the topic of Hotwire, i contacted them via email, the short version, they are not doing any wiring older than 1996, due to plugs no longer being made. I was pretty clear that i was willing to ship them more than one OEM harness, so parts should be plenty. But looks like i missed that train. Right now waiting to hear back from Hesco to see if they can still produce their Mopar Wiring, we shall see.

At this point, if i can get it all functional I plan to make 2 sets, box one up and keep it safe and hidden, then when the market for gold falls out I'll be king!!

thank you much for the info! I'll be sifting through it all!

Weird. I sent them the old harness bulkhead connector and they ran the new wires to everything I needed to connect to the 98 4.0. But I guess your OBD1 motor is too old for them to mess with. Sorry to hear that.

Mine (and Dain's too) is OBD II.

I do have the spredsheet for mine on my home laptop.

It's so sickening that CJoffroad.com went away, that site was the goldmine for this stuff and where I got most of my swap info.

That site going away is why we started these engine swap subforums.

That is my post from 2004 - where has the time gone?!?!?! Since that post I graduated from medical school, finished residency, had 2 more kids (4 total now) and have been working for nearly 15 years. One kid in college already.

I have a FSM from a 93ish XJ. Also have a cool OBI code reader somewhere - was helpful after the swap. Unfortunately my Scrambler has been in pieces awaiting a refresh for almost 10 years. Kids don't really have an interest in it and I lost all motivation. I'll help answer any questions you may have (using my notes if I can find them because I have long since forgotten most everything about the swap) and I can send you pics from the FSM.

Restoring my FJ40 and rebuilding my 8 with my son and daughter really fostered a love of cars in both of them. You may be surprised how into it they may become once new parts start rocking up and a vehicle starts coming together.

I did my swap in '04. 95 Cherokee 4.0 with ECM and harness. $700 shipped from the junkyard from Kentucky. Bought a factory manual on the cherokee, a chilton on the CJ, and dug in. Spent much time here digging up info. Worked like a charm. That was a long time ago. Didn't go for the tranny swap. Lazy and wanted it back on the road so I used the 903. Sure miss that jeep. I still have that factory manual if anyone is interested. Has all the wiring in the whole car.

Newbie to your forum. I have a 86 CJ7 that I am getting ready to do the swap on. I have a 93 XJ 4.0 (entire vehicle) replacing my 258. Plan on keeping my T176. I am on here because you guys seem to have a lot more detailed info on the swap. Questions I have are: best flywheel to buy, water pump for clutch fan, does anyone have a template for mounting their CPS, and a pin diagram? for the 93 so I can match up the correct 5 wires to fire?

Thanks for letting me in and asking questions.
Mark
