Today I got the body mounts in place and the body bolted down. Not as easy as it sounds on this one. A previous owner had replaced and added sheetmetal to the floor areas which changed the height of the floor in some places. I set it on the body mounts front and rear and measured the...
Exhaust is all done. My friend brought the chassis back this evening. Backed it under the body. Will straighten it out in the daylight. I like centering the tank and running the dual exhaust alongside the tank and out the back. Finally some more progress.
Did this red custom wheel for a speed shop. Thick leather gave my fingers a work out. My east coast personal shopper got six wheels for me this year. Thanks Eric. I bought three wheels from Ebay and covered the CJ Laredo deep spoke one. The Early Sport wheels (3-holes per spoke) were elusive...
Had my neighbor weld in the patch pieces I made to fix this windshield. Water got behind the rubber and rusted out these two places with a vengeance. This was left over after I replaced it with a nice no-rust CA desert frame. My neighbor is finishing up welding the exhaust and I should have the...
Had a couple of almost 70 degree days and got the hood painted. Unless I decide to put hard doors on this, all white body parts (except a rear step bumper) are painted.
If you want the metallic you probably will have to buy the automotive paint and spray it. If you want to match the honey used in 1985 and 86 interiors, then you can get a spray can of SEM Color Coat in Camel color and it matches well.
Made up a couple of center console pads for the OEM consoles today. One Garnet and one Honey (spice if you have a YJ). Same leather on them as I use on steering wheels. I have a skiving machine that I use to thin down the leather that I use on the welt to make it tiny like on the original pads...
Got the windshield assembly ready to install when someone is here to help with it. I has a Wrangler glass with rubber installed. CJ rubber and glass has leaking problems sometimes but the YJ setup has no chance of leaking . . . and it looks cleaner because the rubber isn't so big and doesn't...
There are probably many ways to fix it. You could do it without the pop rivets. Or use countersunk rivets. Or grind down the heads of the pop rivets after the epoxy is dry and put filler over them. Or use screws to hold the metal in place until the epoxy dries, remove the screws and fill in...
Cut a piece of metal larger than the hole, drill two holes for pop rivets, epoxy the metal to the box, install pop rivets, epoxy around the broken edge, and when dry fill the recess with body filler. Sand and paint.
Just a little more done. Got the U-joints in the driveshaft I got from Craig and installed it. Thank you Craig. Put the fluid in the trans and TC. Still waiting for my friend to weld up the exhaust for me.
Get an original, or an original replacement bumper (which is not as tall as the later Wrangler bumpers) and the brush guards and the bumper ends should fit just fine.
