Got this overflow bottle, made by Dorman, and it fit nicely on the right side. Not bad for 12 bucks. My brake lines, meant for no booster, were interfering with the oem one. I think I have all the engine wiring sorted out.
Got the made up nut plates for the big wing nuts that hold the windshield from folding riveted to the body so I could get the dash installed. Cleaned up the under-dash wiring, picked out some nice gauges and switches, and hung the wiring on the dash and installed it. Years ago I sent a box of...
I just bought 5/16" copper plated steel line and bent them by hand. Bought a $13 bender but didn't really need it. Pre-bent is prettier but mine will work just as well and cost much less. I
Today I installed the snaps on the tonneau cover and the fasteners on the body and tail gate and now the cover is on. It had been folded up for years and needed to get a chance to flatten out and get the kinks out.
Installed those nice little ss protector plates with some new ss footman loops. The plates came with this tub so I'll keep them with it. Made the cross tubes for the tonneau cover from old left over copper tubing from upgrading my house plumbing. I have an original NOS cross tube to copy so...
Today I made the cross tubes that support the tonneau cover. Had old copper 3/4" tubing that was easy to shape. My neighbor has some rollers that put the crown in the tubes in a couple minutes. I put the end in my vice, tightened it up, and bent it over. Matched it up to an original I have...
Installed the FI system with the distributor with electronics. I've been figuring out the wiring and connecting things up. I still have a few connections to make and a few to eliminate. I'm sure many of you have already done this and can steering me in the right direction. On the distributor I...
Installed the tail gate. Other than prepping small parts, not much going on. Mechanic/friend made it back from Alaska but caught something (not fish) on the way there (airplane circulating air) and has been sick ever since. Can't make much progress without the engine.
Yes they did. Most of us have only heard of the V8 being in the CJ7. I have two Scramblers that I have put AMC 304s in. I think that should have been an option. We all would love to hear more about your V8 Scrambler that you got from the original owner. And we love pictures. And any info you got...
I also believe from what I've read in the past that there were some 1981 CJ7s that came with a V8. When searching for parts for a 304, such as a flywheel, 81 was listed. Someone on here said as AMC changed to the Six on CJs, they used up remaining V8s on some CJ7s. I could imagine someone...
The VIN number will have a letter designation for the engine. If you list your VIN knowledgeable forum members will be able to decipher what the original engine was. I'd love it to be a V8.
Looks like an early 82 without the 3-point seat belts. If the dash has the clock and tach it may be a Laredo. Picture of the seats, if original, would confirm that. Being an 82 it will have the wide track axles which is better than the narrow 81 axles. Seeing the pictures you have posted leads...
Texas jeeps usually have very little rust. That's a big plus. Is the engine a 6 cylinder or something else? 4 speed or 5 speed or automatic? What year is the Scrambler? Does the dash have a tach and clock? Your husband was more than likely correct in pricing it or maybe a little low. All...
Maybe looking in the radiator you could see if the water is circulating the way it should. My 81 Calif edition 4.2 with the serpentine belt was replaced with a lower mileage 83 4.2 that had the v-belt direction pump and it overheated on the way home from the shop. Another shop figured it out...
Installed the cab divider with tonneau rail. I upgraded my wife's Scrambler with the later roll bar a few years ago. This is the left over roll bar from her '81. I painted it a few days ago and installed it yesterday. A few more small steps to getting this done. Ordered the rebuild kit for the...
