    304 & 999 Scrambler Build

Installed the FI system with the distributor with electronics. I've been figuring out the wiring and connecting things up. I still have a few connections to make and a few to eliminate. I'm sure many of you have already done this and can steering me in the right direction. On the distributor I...

Building a Scrambler from left overs

Installed the tail gate. Other than prepping small parts, not much going on. Mechanic/friend made it back from Alaska but caught something (not fish) on the way there (airplane circulating air) and has been sick ever since. Can't make much progress without the engine.

Bucket, the 1981 CJ8 frame off.

Great deal on the pan. The gasket for it costs more.

    V8 scrambler

Yes they did. Most of us have only heard of the V8 being in the CJ7. I have two Scramblers that I have put AMC 304s in. I think that should have been an option. We all would love to hear more about your V8 Scrambler that you got from the original owner. And we love pictures. And any info you got...

    V8 scrambler

I also believe from what I've read in the past that there were some 1981 CJ7s that came with a V8. When searching for parts for a 304, such as a flywheel, 81 was listed. Someone on here said as AMC changed to the Six on CJs, they used up remaining V8s on some CJ7s. I could imagine someone...

    V8 scrambler

The VIN number will have a letter designation for the engine. If you list your VIN knowledgeable forum members will be able to decipher what the original engine was. I'd love it to be a V8.

Advise on price to ask for CJ-8 Scrambler

Looks like an early 82 without the 3-point seat belts. If the dash has the clock and tach it may be a Laredo. Picture of the seats, if original, would confirm that. Being an 82 it will have the wide track axles which is better than the narrow 81 axles. Seeing the pictures you have posted leads...

Advise on price to ask for CJ-8 Scrambler

Texas jeeps usually have very little rust. That's a big plus. Is the engine a 6 cylinder or something else? 4 speed or 5 speed or automatic? What year is the Scrambler? Does the dash have a tach and clock? Your husband was more than likely correct in pricing it or maybe a little low. All...

4.2 to 4.0 swap water pump question

Maybe looking in the radiator you could see if the water is circulating the way it should. My 81 Calif edition 4.2 with the serpentine belt was replaced with a lower mileage 83 4.2 that had the v-belt direction pump and it overheated on the way home from the shop. Another shop figured it out...

Building a Scrambler from left overs

Installed the cab divider with tonneau rail. I upgraded my wife's Scrambler with the later roll bar a few years ago. This is the left over roll bar from her '81. I painted it a few days ago and installed it yesterday. A few more small steps to getting this done. Ordered the rebuild kit for the...

Building a Scrambler from left overs

Installed the inside-of-firewall stuff today. After doing that I ran a tap through all the nuts on the body and a die over the studs. Then I noticed there were no nuts for some of the battery tray mounting positions. Two right behind the heater box. So I pulled the heater box, mounted the...
