Has anyone figured out a way to utilize an overhead console while still being able to add or remove the half hard top?
Seems like the only way Ive seen is to add a rollcage internal and independent of the stock 4" tube sport bar. In my opinion this seems to take away from the classic cj8 look.
Thanks for the input on the lift scenario. I think I'm leaning towards trading a guy for his 4" Rough country springs (short term), but paying for the premium shocks like Fox. Down the road I'll upgrade the springs to BDS and 2.5" width, add a leaf like you guys suggested. I was planning to do...
Well well, figured its time to pop the cherry on making a build thread.
After a few years of looking I decided I wanted to move forward with a CJ8 due to the unique body and ability to have 3 rows of seats. A fully restored version was out of my price range and after looking at a few rust...
Its an AMC360 using the advanceadapter mounts. Frame is a basic TDK from quadratec (No extra options).I didn't factor in the Tub clearance, I'll add that to the checklist. I was primarily concerned about driveline angles to the axles with a 2.5" suspension lift. Just for sanity I was planning to...
Hey rubclt, Do you have any references for how/where to weld the engine mounts? I'm on a new TDK Basic frame and I see they have mount holes, did you end up using that location? So far I can only think to assemble the drive train while on the engine hoist and start dry fitting. Where it gets...
An AX15 behind the LS ay? I have been trying to finalize the transmission selection and I see the NV3550 is a middleground between the AX15 and NV4500. How come you didn't opt for the NV3550?
I'm still trying to find torque and power ratings but I see the NV3550 is rated at 300ftlbs for a...
I'm debating what "mini" project to start with on this thing. I figure with the rear axle already rebuilt, the only thing left to get wheels on the frame is to rebuild the front end. However I just took glance at my frame in the garage and I've got surface rust starting to develop.
You guys...
Bit of an old thread but I'm looking at a similar situation.
Just bought a project scrambler and it came with 4.10 gears in the dana30 and amc20 (Both with detroit lockers). Previous owner said he was planning to run a stockish tire at 31" or 32".
With a modified AMC 360 putting out say...
I see now what you mean about all the extra work/labor. When you talk about restoring and fixing tubs, does that include the spot welds that have deformed the exterior panels too? Was reading they came that way from Jeep as well.
I was looking at the inside of the tub and I see how these...
It was one long day, left charlotte area around 630, arrived at the sellers place at 230, left at 8.
My dad and I got everything except the spare rear and the 4.2L.
Feeling pumped as crap! Got a fun road ahead... Can't wait to see the wife's reaction!
Adam,
Was just looking through your "DO WHAT!?" thread, do you think it will be a big pain to get the corrected tub to fit with a full soft top or the half hard cab?
I asked the seller if the doors fit and he stated they will need modified a bit but it didn't sound too bad... But having to...
Thank you sir, probably will go with the nv4500 but may consider a 4 speed.
Do you guys think it's worth grabbing all the parts I can up there? Is there any worth in an amc20 front axle these days? Or an unmodified rear axle? I'm going up there next weekend and debating what to sacrifice if I...
What transmission do you recommend for being able to handle the AMC power + maybe some additional power down the road in the 500-650 range? Preferably at least a 5 speed manual
Adam,
His name is Bob, pretty big into motorcycles also. Very small world, you actually reached out to me from Mike's post on NC 4x4 the other day. I'm in Stanley, NC.
I'm also pretty sure I took my WJ to your shop Freedom 4x4 back in 2020.
It's on the buy list!
Looks like that painless harness will allow me to run one engine/transmission option and then switch later on without having to change anything besides what is infront of the firewall which is sweet.
Thinking about this further I'm starting to think maybe I should run...
I believe that, seemed like a no-brainer for me because of my limited welding experience. I definitely wouldn't make a body panel weld look nice but i can handle structural stuff.
Would a good service manual or restoration manual detail all the wire channels? He is passing this book along but...
