We arrived at the lake at the end of the trail. Had the place to ourselves. We had a nice lunch and explored a mine shaft. We're in the Sawtooth mountains. Very beautiful.
Then we went back down the trail for about a half mile and made the turn to take us to Boulder City. It was an...
We set out on the next leg of our journey. We began the 700-mile drive in the Scrambler to Ketchum, Idaho. Meri's Redding mountain biking friends were on their way and had her bike and riding gear. After leaving the cool weather in Silverton, things started heating up as we made our way...
The second day tailride promised a little more technical challenge. We went past Animas Fork and climbed up the Engineer Pass Road and broke off to Poughkeepsie Gulch. Then we came back via California Pass. There was a little more rock crawling in some areas and, of course, we awaited our...
The first day's tailride was fantastic. We left Silverton and hit Animas Fork, Picane Gulch, California Pass, Hurricane Pass and Corkscrew Gulch. The scenery was amazing. We could go back and explore those areas for 3-4 days and never see everything.
Day 2 on our trip to Silverton, Colorado started out by loading all our gear back into the Scrambler and filling the Dometic Refrigerator with more water and Gatorade. It was hot at 8:00am and only getting hotter by the minute.
We set out and hit stretches of Highway 80 through Nevada that...
I've been really busy lately but wanted to get some posts of recent Scrambler activity up here. The good news is using the Scrambler was part of the busyness!
This is the story of our journey. It was one that we will always remember...
Here is Day 1:
I had been doing a lot of prep to get...
Great pics and commentary! You are so correct that you need to always pay attention. You are on one obstacle and better look at what is next or it will bite you! At the end of the day, you are physically and mentally spent. It's a true gem that we need to fight to keep open.
Tell me about the hard top. I haven't seen one without side windows for a Scrambler.
Do you know who the manufacturer was? Is it just a UK brand? Or did you do some fiberglass work and fill in the windows?
I am planning on adding a full hard top and want to replace the windows with some...
We did make it to Silverton driving the Scrambler. I'll post more later but we wheeled Wednesday and Thursday with the group and had a blast! Amazing trails and scenery. Dan and everyone else are a great group to wheel with.
I did lose 5th gear on my NV-4500 transmission about 4 hours from...
We loaded up the Scrambler on the trailer and set out for the 1,200 mile drive this morning. It was 110 degrees in Redding but we were good in the 1999 F350 PowerStroke I’ve had since it was new. But about 40 miles from home it totally and instantly died on a good grade. Luckily I was able to...
Doh! Sorry you got that damage. Glad you made it through otherwise. That side is the most vulnerable. You can't see it like you can on the drivers side.
Where on the trail did that happen?
Are you a manual trans or auto? I am manual with 125:1 crawl ratio. There are several sections that...
Yes. Those tires were 35 x 12.50 x 15 BFG First Gen KM's that I had siped. They were on 15x8 wheels. With a full gear load like that I run 18 PSI. If we setup camp and go out for day trips with minimal gear, I will go down to 14 PSI.
Looks like you are setup well. I am skipping the Rubicon this summer for just that reason! Will do many milder trails this year but back at it in full next year. Once I build some new rear corner guards, I will feel better about the big rocks!
Not sure if you saw my video when I did the...
Good info. The shackle angle really does make a big difference in the ride quality and flex.
Most of you guys aren't SOA but here are some pics of my shackle angles.
The on-road ride of my Scrambler SOA setup with the now unavailable Rubicon Express RE1445 1.5" YJ Springs is really nice...
Do we have a rough idea on how many might come? Seems like only a handful or less so far in this thread.
We're in for sure. On the way home we will be going to Sun Valley, Idaho. My wife is a major mountain biker. She may ride a few trails in the Silverton area while we are there. Her...
