I don't have a mill, and the drill press won't do it since the hole is not a "complete circle" (there is a gap in the metal, it does not complete close around the hinge pin). But does anyone know if an OEM hinge is of the larger diameter (7/16")?

Here's another possibility. I am seeing some sources saying 5.5 Qts. My filter does NOT look like it could hold a Full Quart. I think the filters hold 1/2 quart. I think 5.5 would put me closer to the full mark. Also, is it possible filter sizes were significantly larger 40 years ago!?

I guess MEASURING the tube would be a good idea also. Anyone know the correct measurement?

I am not the original owner. So it's possible I have the wrong tube. I also wonder, could there be different OIL PANS with different capacities?

This all makes sense. But what doesn't make sense is that I just put in 6qts with a filter change (and ran the engine for a bit, then let it settle), and then the dipsticks reads about a quart over "Full". I'm fine with using 5.5 or 6 qts, but why does the dipstick read FULL after 5 qts...
