I just got back. Here is a link to photos. black hills
We rented a nice Airbnb just south of Lead. Saturday we ran some tougher trails. The video is the trail to Custer peak. It is as gnarly a trail as I wanted to try with my stock Jeep, knowing I had almost 500 miles to drive home. I didn't see...
I’m taking the Jeep. Going second week of September. Not having much luck getting info on trails. I know they are all shown on the Avenza maps but I would like info from someone who could point me to some fairly easy trails with sights to see.
Thanks. It’s just me so I wouldn’t be spoiling a family vacation. I have driven my Srambler out there before. I live in MN so it’s about a 10 hr trip. My sister and BIL will probably be towing their SXS out so I would have some back up. I have an uncle there who is giving me some hardwood lumber...
Does anyone have experience riding the trails in the Black Hills? I am heading there this summer and deciding if I should drive my Scrambler out or rent a SXS out there.
I should correct myself. The 120 and 2.5L were the Iron Duke. The 140 and 3.0L were the Mercruiser version. Since you mentioned the 3.0 I've been thinking that may be a good swap. I think it would be more powerful than my 4.2. I think the bell housing is the same as the 2.5, GM. There are a...
A friend just bought a nice 1990 Cherokee and is asking me advice for mods to do some off-roading. Mainly hunting in the mountains type stuff. Can anyone recommend a forum for the Cherokee?
Thanks
The 3.0 was Mercruiser’s version. They did use the Iron Duke before that. The Iron Duke was the 120/140. Mercruiser’s was the 3.0. Mercruiser also made a 3.7L 4 cylinder. It had a 460 Ford head. The charging system was behind the harmonic balancer like an outboard.
Mercruiser used the Iron Duke in their stern drives for many years. They had decent power. The cam from one of them may be an improvement. Just guessing here.
I just finished replacing the front axle seals in my 81 Scrambler. If you haven't done it before, a couple things can be confusing. The seal is a two part seal. The seal is pressed into an outer flanged shell that acts as an axle guide. That shell is what actually gets driven into the axle tube...
If I could do it over I think I would have left the tub original. Just done the frame, engine etc. I'm sure she saved the file so it would be easy for her to make other custom sets.
