On the ‘76-86 CJs, the no rib windshield frame was original from ‘76 until early ‘83. At some point in ‘83 production on the CJs changed over to the single rib windshield frame. The single rib lasted through the end of the CJ production in ‘86.
Have a fresh rebuilt TF999 that has a faint “whirring” noise that is only present when in park and neutral. This noise only appears when I shift from one of the three forward gears (D, 2, 1) then into neutral or park. If I go from reverse into neutral/park the noise doesn’t show up.
While the...
End play checked out good. I’m just going to run it for a few hundred more miles and keep an eye on it, then do a fluid change. Will see if getting a few more miles on the new bearings will help out the temps.
Sounds like it could very well be the new bearings in the rear output shaft breaking in. The transfer case gets fairly hot to the touch (can only hold my hand on it for a couple seconds, rear aluminum output housing feels slightly warmer than the cast case). I’ve never monitored transfer case...
Those of you with a temp gauge installed on a Dana 300, what sort of temperatures are you seeing with sustained highway driving (over 55 mph for more than 30 miles)? First trip in this Jeep since clocking the transfer case near flat, installing twin sticks, Novak front output shaft, and advance...
Couple questions for those running the Lokar throttle valve/kickdown cable with a TF999 transmission and an AMC 360. On the transmission end of the cable, do you need to run a return cable to pull the throttle valve lever back forward (towards the engine) when no throttle is being applied...
You are correct, it is a specific bracket made for the 60/40 seat over the transmission hump. Can get you some pictures today. I have an extra 60/40 bench with the brackets on it. I could send you the bracket if you wanted to use it to make a duplicate, then just send it back when you are done...
I ended up swapping in a 360 V8 in front of the TF999 on this Jeep. I went with the Ididit column cable linkage (part # 2801750010) and the Lokar kickdown/throttle valve linkage (part # KD-2904HT) with the Lokar throttle cable bracket (part # SRK-4000) with an original tilt auto-shift column...
I’m long overdue with updating this thread! And the third baby is now over 6 months old! Will get the thread updated when I get back into the US. Have had a few other projects get in the way but body work has continued on the green Postal. And yes, I still have both of my Postals with their...
I've had much better luck tuning the Carter BBD's over any Motorcraft 2100 or 2150 I've ever worked on. I agree Spankrjs, the Carter BBD can and will run great. With that said, put me in the camp for the Mopar MPFI system and/or MPFI with the 4.0 head swap. When properly installed, I personally...
Sorry to see you let it go, yours has always been one of my all-favorites on this board. I'm a garnet junkie! I continually found myself looking at pictures on your threads when referencing where a spot weld should go or how a new panel needed to be shaped/fabbed while doing the rust repair on...
I've used UShip to haul non-running and running Jeeps, Scrambler tubs, and axles from Southern California, Oregon, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Colorado; all to Kansas. I've had great luck every time. Having a flexible time frame helps.
Thanks guys! I'm beyond excited! All the more reason for me to add the full cage and third row seating to this build.
Nothing really tech related but the Postal did come out of the shop for the first time in a couple years so the remodel of our smaller shop can get started this Tuesday. Had to...
Forgot to post this a while back, but have had a few other projects come up. One including remodeling our small shop and insulating, wiring heating/ac, adding a bar, etc. which we are just getting started on and will be done by mid February. But much more importantly, I have another big...
Since yours was a forestry/government Jeep, did it show the paint code as Olympic White "9B" or does it show something else on the data tag on the firewall?
