1981 RHD Scrambler build (UK spec)

Thanks to the M.D Juan tub landing a couple of weeks ago plus i managed to aquire a bulkhead and halfcab i have finally been able to make some progress.:headbang:

Heres the tub with the half cab,my old dash and roll bar on when it all landed (nothing is fastened down)

Spent the last two days making the tub RHD which involved more drilling of spot welds to remove the reinforcing plate on the left hand panel and then using my old reinforcing plate as a template for the right hand side.
Still need to mend the reinforcing plate but it will do for now as a template.

Even had a bit of time to mount the washer bottle:D

Realised i needed to put the heater back in before i did the steering column so started on the left hand drive panel.

Then got bored so finished for the day by fitting the two tail lamps, fuel filler cover and temporarily throwing the seats in.

Have also now realised that i need to drill and fit everything before i strip it all down again for paint but there is a light at the end of the tunnel at last :)

Bit of progress making the front fenders fit the bonnet (its almost there!) and also trial fitting the doors after bolting the bulkhead down.

I need to say that the MD Juan tub has surprised me with how well everything fits, which is possibly down to Rommel making sure his quality control is working properly, i am only having to tweak things as i would do with the factory tub.

The doors have not got there latches installed so there are some shadows on the photos below as they are not being held shut but you get the idea.

So you has had no issues with fitment? All the holes lined up properly and the tops and doors fit correctly?

Every body mount went in (apart from one that had not been tapped ) and the doors, half cab and tailgate look like they will all fit a treat.
There are a few minor differences between this tub and the original one and a few bits that are either not cut out or drilled, but by and large its all looking okay and certainly heaps better than my rusty original tub, plus who knows what shape that would end up as after lots and lots of welding.:(

What minor differences between the two did you encounter?

Im in the UK so received it from a UK supplier.(Jeeparts)

When i have the time i will make a list of things that are different and put it on the MD Juan thread, so if Rommel wants to do something about it he can, Are you looking into buying one notquitemusashi?

Tonight after saying it looked like the tailgate would be fine, i realised i had a problem with the tailgate mounts until i took the hinges off and sat them side by side:banghead:

Yes. I Am loking to buy one. I need a tub. I am not opposed to restoring one with rusted floors but the thought of just having a new and complete tub is really appealing.

Looks good, should pass the poking/prying screwdrivers and pens of the MOT trolls......

So far its looking really good, but i need to go pick up the original hood and try that on for size, as i think i will be using the original one as there is nothing wrong with it.

Its those long prybars you have to worry about :D

Hi Dave, I just found this thread now. Please give me a blow by blow account of all the things we still need to work on.

Will do Rommel. I keep promising to do a bit of a review for everyone on here its just that i have been very busy working so not had time for any Scrambler loving recently.
One thing i will say now while i remember is that one of the wheel arches came welded on with the inner edge to the outside and the outer edge to the inside which i am going to have to swap over, but i will put some photos up and show you what i mean. Someone must of had a late night the previous day and not realised the pressings didnt line up.
