1983 Restore in Ga 4bt cummins goin in now

I think I'd be sinking the shackles into the frame to lower it a bit-

Yea, I am going to lower it some how, the stock yj springs I picked up were no match for the weight of the cummins so I had to put the 4 inchers back on so I could get the tires on. Prob drop it at least 3 inches before its over with.

No spacers front or rear, The front tires are brand new, the rears not so brand new, but I will keep my eyes open for a newer trailer and maybe I can score 2 more new ones and move the well used ones to the trailer. These have run flats in them and I have been told they weigh 60 lbs alone and it helps with the ride if you remove them. SO I am going to try it with them in first and see....

Axels are out of a 3/4 ton chevy early 80s truck. 373 gears.

The run flats are not that heavy. We have pulled them apart before and they are about 35lbs which is still a good bit. However you have to have something inside to pinch the bead. Trail worthy fab sells PVC inserts for 50 bucks but you only get a 25% decrease in weight. The other benefit is the ability to run a lower PSI without hitting the run flat. I'm still running stock inserts for now.

I am trying to find two more like new tires so I will have 4 with 100 % tread, Do they ride as good as a retail 37 inch tire?

These are the only 37" tires I've owned. They are tolerable I think on noise. It's hard to diagnose how much vibration comes from them when we have the diesel. I don't have anything to dampen sound either in the jeep. painted floors and open doors every day rain or shine. The nice thing about the tires is they last forever. You'll get a lot of mileage out of them for sure. These tires are a stepping stone in my opinion to better quality wheels and tires later on. Besides military tires there isn't much choice for 16.5" diameter wheel tires.

I had one that looked like a bent rim on a bike so I took it apart and the run flat and ring were in the wrong spots, the ring was bowed in the middle, I put them on the right sides and it got a little better but still has a slight wave. I guess I am going to pull the out and see how they do.

If you can find some H2 wheels on craigslist they will fit and they are a normal wheel size for future tire purchases that will give you a bigger variety instead of pitbull, interco, or military tires. i didn't like how they looked at first, but I saw a set on "Renolaw" and it changed my mind about them. He has a pic here https://www.cj-8.com/forum/showthre...-August-2014-version/page2&highlight=gaducker

Have you dealt with the Crankcase vent tube spraying oil on your underbody? I never noticed it before and I thought I had a rear main seal leak after just changing it, but it's coming from the drivers side tube just aft of the lift pump. I've been reading about it and from what I can gather it's normal and I just need to build a catch pan or run a longer tube so it doesn't get on the engine area and the jeep will mark it's territory everywhere it goes.

Also I have a cummins parts breakdown. It has pretty much every single part number and nomenclature for the engine. PM your email and I'll send you the files for it.

I have a set of h2s that I got when I got the axels, They stuck out to far. The only reason i like the h1s are the offset and they just look mean. I have a gatoraid bottle on my draft tube at this time. I am going to put a scavage pipe in the ehaust pipe about half way back and see what that dose. A catch can that would let the oil run back in the crank case would be ideal.. The amount of oil in the gator aid bottle is nothing compared to what you see under the truck after you run it awhile. It must just be a super fine mist that gets on everything.

I mentioned running the oil back in to the crankcase to a tuner buddy and he looked at me like I'm crazy. He did not suggest it at all. He built a pretty ridiculous 1100 HP car that he is meticulous about so I take his word with respect. I think I'll just do a catch since it doesn't accumulate that much fluid. He is going to show me his catch setup this week. I like my H1's better too, especially with the rock guards on them. Got the guards at trail worthy fab.

I think I'm getting used to the ride because today I drove it and it didn't bother me at all. I had taken my hard top off and running no soft top right now. Maybe my hard top makes more noise than having no top. haha. I'm taking the jeep wheelin this weekend for it's first test run. Hoping the dana 44 doesn't snap right away with those tires. There was a local selling a truck with a dana 60 kingpin for 1500, but I couldn't justify it to the wife so I passed. Shame I might have been able to part it out and pay next to nothing for the axle.

I broke down all 4 tires today to get them turned the right direction and to balance them, them sobs are HEAVY and they wore me out in the heat today. I know one thing, if you have a flat you better have some help to change it.

I picked up another brand new m1101 trailer this weekend with brand new tires so now I have 4 brand new tires on the jeep with wiskers. It should ride great now.

I also put a dual carden rear drive shaft on the other day and that was where 90% of the shake I was feeling was coming from. 28 degrees with a single cardan shaft was putting it in a bind every rotation.

I also built me a steering box brace and I must say with the 37s on that was the single biggest improvement to steering and tracking down the road that's been done since I mounted the big tires.

Any pics of the brace?! I need to build one too.

I will send you one, I just used a 2 inch exhaust clamp around the snout of the gear box some heavy wall 1 inch square tube and welded the tube to the clamp and to the frame. I did it quick and simple just to see if it made a difference. Boy it made a heck of a difference I will go back and fix some kind of plate to bolt make it removable when I put the H1 box on. I did grind a bit of the rib off that's on the drivers side of the box so the ubolt would slide up far enough to keep a good bite. Don't know what those things cost but I got about 5 bucks in this one.

Got it home and driving it everyday. Put a new driveshaft in last week

I was driving the jeep home last thur and all heck broke loose, I thought I had slung a rod or the dowel pin fell out and busted my timing cover. I shut it down quickly and went home and got the trailer.

By the time I got back up to the jeep I was convinced I had major engine failure and I was mad by then so I just said pizz on it and I was gona just fire it up and drive it on the trailer no matter the excess damage.................... Well when I crank it up it made a very light noise but nothing like it was when I shut it off, So I get it home and have my son sit in the drivers seat while I had my head under the hood starting at the front thinking it was the timing case.

Good news it was niether the case or a rod. Any guess as to what it was??? One clue VIBES.........

Here's a guess: The rod that holds up the hood vibrated loose and fell onto the fan.

When I loctited the bolts that hold the bellhousing adapter to the block I missed ONE, It backed out into the back of the flywheel. prob was up againt the flywheel for a week before it really got loud because I was noticing some weird vibes at certain rpms that just appered out of nowhere. After taking it down and fixing it I can see where the noise was coming from.
