82 Scrambler Build

Nice work, Skywagon! I like the 180 in the background. I've got thousands of hours flying 180/185/206 seaplanes in Alaska, having lived in Petersburg as a teenager. I'm also an A&P/IA so I appreciate the level of work you've put into the build. And, that color is perfect for the Scrambler. Kudos.
Thanks! The 180 has been getting some love as well with a 470XP an EDM 900 engine monitor and a Hartzell Voyager prop. That should be done in April hopefully.

Curious if you talked to Rocky-Road in regards to the mounting.
Were you able to get CJ8 slides with TJ mounting brackets or did they workout something for you?
@Skywagon has TDK frame too and only made slight mods. Will adjust as required or do something different… joy of one-off jeep…

Honestly I didn’t think of it at the time. I assumed the TDK CJ-8 frame would be similar enough to not matter. I should probably call them be let them know the issues I had. Basically there was interference at the front and rear mount and the body mounts on the frame, and to keep it straight on the body required the spacer in the rear. It all worked out fine in the end…so there’s that.

Thanks guys.

I'll probably have to contact them for some differences with mine...
I have a 1" body lift (which I understand the TDK frame is "built-in" ), is the mounting height adjustable?
Also, my body is a little shorter between the wheel openings because of front fender trimming. Maybe a LJ, JK or JL would be more appropriate.

Hi all!
I’m new to the forum but found this thread while doing research online. I’m super interested in this build as I’m doing a similar project with a 1951 Willys truck. Did the 5.7 hemi bolt straight up to the NV4500 bellhousing or did you have to get another bellhousing or adapter? Also, did you have to do anything to the starter, flywheel, or clutch to make them work right? Pilot bearing? I know it’s more work but there’s nothing like driving an old Jeep with a heavy duty manual truck tranny! I Totally love the looks of your build! Incredible!

It’s been a while since I posted an update so here’s a few shots of the current state of thins. Electrical work is the last big hurdle before we are in a running condition. View attachment 100805View attachment 100808
A few questions:

How do you like the magnaflows sound and do you have heat shields between them and the floor? I ask because I have glasspacks I'd like to replace, and have been thinking about Magnaflows, and that the glass packs make the floor very very hot!!!! Too hot to put your feet on.

Second question, what is that slim box mounted on the fender there with what look like buttons on top???

Inquiring minds want to know!

I haven’t even started her yet. The airplane took priority with a full engine swap. Now that’s finished I’ll be diving into the Jeep again.

As for the box on the fender. That is the Holley computer to run the 5.7 hemi I installed.

I had magna flows on a V8 Jeep. Don’t remember a hot floor. They were quieter than a flow master. Liked them

I have a Magnaflow on my red 4.0 Scrambler. No heat issues, fairly quiet until you lay into it then it has a deeper tone. They seem to be built fairly tough, too.
