GREAT EVENT!!! GREAT PEOPLE!! GREAT SCRAMBLERS!! GREAT TRAILS!!! GREAT FOOD!!!
GREAT RAFFLE PRIZES!!

The 8th Annual National Scramble held in Ouray, Co. was definitely a great event. We had 32 registrants with (3) no shows. Total count of registrants and guest was between 65 to 70. We also had a few dogs and one cat on a leash.

I am starting this thread so the people who attended the event can post some of their favorite pictures and tell about their favorite trails and adventures. Also please give some comment about the event as feed back to help the next committee make preparations.

Next year will be the 9th Annual National Scramble and we will be celebrating the SOA 10th anniversary. So start thinking about that as it will be a special event. Where and when? The board will soon be asking for your input so think about that also. We have some great members out there and I personally would like to see more people get involved.

Scrambler sighting!

I was excited then dismayed when I heard about the gathering being in Ouray CO and realized I could not make it. A very good friend of mine moved there a couple years ago. I told him to be on the look out & he texted me a pic cause when he saw a Scrambler he thought of me. I have 2 parts Scramblers & an 83 CJ7 for my Resurrection Scrambler rebuild sitting at his farm here in Illinois. Here is the picture he texted me. I am not sure whose Scrambler but he titled it A REAL JEEP!

I want to thank the Adams and Espinosa families for all the work they did to make this a great event. Ken and Bill especially. I look forward to next year!

Finally got in about 1:30 this morning.

I would like to thank Ken Adams, Bill Espinosa, Dan Cole, and everyone else who assisted in not only coordinating the National Sramble, the Colorado Scramble, and then the timing of both events.

Catherine and I had an absolute blast:woot::woot::woot:

As Jim, aka Jim Doug, stated it's the people that's a part of this association that makes these events so good and I totally 100% agree. It was good to meet new people as well as get back together with old friends.

Will post a link to pictures when I get a second but now it's off to unload the truck and Jeep

Amen!! Fantastic work!

Well, where to start? First I want to thank both Bill Espinoza and Ken Adams, and all the SOA officers for putting together a very well thought out and extremely well run event. I have only an inkling of the work and planning it must have taken to make the event the great success that it was, so again, thank you guys! Due to continual carburation problems,(a lot of the photos show my 8 with the hood open) I was only able to make half the trails on both Monday and Tuesday, and laid out Wednesday entirely for the same reason. On the trails I did manage to run, I had a great time and enjoyed every moment of it. The level of courtesy and experience of both the trail leaders and fellow Jeepers helped me immensely to make it thru areas that clearly intimidated both me and my wife. Thank you guys for all your help, support and patience while I was struggling to keep up.

I too would like to thank the Adams' family and Bill Espinoza for the best national event I've ever been too. GREAT trails, people, scenery EVERYWHERE you looked and the food was pretty awesome as well. For the stockers, we had the best trail boss and tail gunner possible (thanks again Ken and Clay). Every day was full, full, full! I'm sure that Kevin will be posting some photos. I'm looking forward to the 9th event.

LOVE the avatar!!!! :rotfl:

LOVE the avatar!!!! :rotfl:

That pic was taken on day 3 in Idaho Springs. We broke on day one, fixed it on day 2, and decided to take it easy on day 3, so as to not break it again before we got to the Main Event in Ouray. So we decided to take a leisurely ride up the hill into the national park. After 5-10 minutes of 3500 RPM screaming straight up the (paved) road, we heard a "hissssssssss" followed by a "BANG", followed by some un-Godly exhaust noise. It seems that the little tube in the side of the downpipe that I had plugged with a bolt had relieved itself. I popped another one in there
with some JB Weld and that held for about 5 minutes before it burned up and blew out, too. Next I used a longer bolt & nut, some high temp RTV and crimped the little tube to eliminate the projectile potential.

The avatar pic was taken during one of the hour wait times for the goo to set up.

Next time, I guess I'll hire a welder to plug that tube shut.:D

Hah, I assumed it was radiator related. Too bad you don't know any welders that could handle that for you ;)

I fought the same thing going over to Silver Lake the first time. Had it plugged and it let go once I got on the highway. Ended up at a cool backwoods part store with a guy who was all about checking out the issue and helping. Ended up with a bolt, JB Weld and a cable clamp u-bolt thing that I used to crush the bejeezus out of them both.

We had a great time in Ouray. Special thanks again to Ken, Clay, Bill, and Russ that kept us moving and together as we travelled. Your efforts were appreciated! Thanks also to Kevin and Clay that jumped right in and had my power steering leak diagnosed and fixed before I even got my head under the hood! The whole family had an enjoyable trip despite my poor planning on not having my full top out there. We had a nice trip back through the southerly route and enjoyed some beautiful and varied views as we went through Lizard Head pass, the 4 corners monument, and The Big Texan steak house in Amarillo. Made it through Oklahoma on Saturday before the fan blower resistor went out, and then a little ways past St Louis before the fuel pump went out in the truck. Fortunately we were close enough for AAA to get us the rest of the way home by midnight for a reasonable price. I enjoyed all of it except the tow truck part. Thanks again to all those involved in the planning and I'm looking forward to next year! Here are a few pics from the week.

Thanks

I would like to thank Ken and every one that gave my family rides when my 8 was having problems (over heating:crazy:) . Also for getting us to change the electric cooling fan to the stock cooling fan. Witch did solve the problem.

Back home Tuesday morning around 9:00am. 3,254 miles on motor home. J P(Juan Pubelo) and I had a great time. We went 4 wheeling 10 days in a roll. Would of been 11, but backed out on boulder canyon trail. We made it through with 7 Scramblers, but 1 more would have been tough. Left that morning at 9:00 am amd out ar 8:00pm. Long--long day. Thanks to all at both Colorado Scramble and the National. Every day was great. Hope can make it back out west again soon.

John & J P

A great time!

After 2800 miles in the Scrambler we made it home. San Antonio to Ouray, then to Moab.....back to San Antonio. A great event, in a great location! I think next time, we'll have an ac installed before attempting to go to Moab, Arizona or west Texas....man it was hot! Thanks to everyone involved in putting it together, hopefully we'll make the next one.

Hopefully this works. The below website has a combination of the Colorado Scramble and the National Scramble. There is between 465-500 pictures. Some pictures have a movie camera in the lower left corner of the picture but I can't get them to play once on the below website . Hope you'll enjoy.

Post-Event Report

2011 National Event Committee 8/25/11

Post-Event Report

Prepared by Committee Chairman Ken Adams (Pappywaho)

Registration:

We had a total of 31 registered for the 2011 National Event with (3) no shows. Total count of registered with guest = 68

Event Schedule:

A daily event schedule was posted at the event and a copy included with each registration packages.

Registration Packages:

Registration packages included an ID holder with neck lanyards, dash plaque, meal tickets, 2011 event decal and one raffle ticket for each registrant as they arrived at the Ouray’s Fellin Park on Sunday, July 24th. Also, an ID holder with neck lanyards was given to each guest. (Taking care of event registration and trail sign up on the evening before the event worked really good)

Sunday, July 24, Morning Breakfast:

SOA registrants and guest (est. 30) who arrived early met for a BIG Breakfast at the Bachelor Syracuse Mine. This was the best in town. Everyone was pleased with the big portions served. Some of the group went on the mine tour after breakfast and said it was very interesting. After the breakfast the honest owner looked at the receipts and noticed the cashier had not given the discount he had offered to our club. To make up for it he gave the SOA club a donation to help with the event expenses.

Daily events:

The daily events went smooth and on time. The SOA group met at the park near the event tent area each morning between 8:00 and 8:30. Each Morning consisted of: the SOA group being welcomed by Ken Adams and Bill Espinosa (Event Committee Members), everyone present introduced themselves and their guest, most everyone hitting the nearby restrooms, instructions for trails were given, then all rigs were staged and headed for the Mountains by 8:30 A.M...

Tuesday, July 26, Evening Meal:

The ‘Adams Family’ (Ken, Sharon, Jason and Clif) provided a BBQ meal Tuesday evening prepared mostly by Jason Adams for those attending the `8th Annual SOA National Scramble’ at the Fellin Park. The meal consisted of smoked beef brisket and pork for sandwiches, Jason’s famous smoked pit beans and potato salad. There were around 60 people present.

Ken Adams (myself) was surprised with a Birthday Cake after the meal by his sneaky family and friends.

Wednesday, July 27, Evening Meal:

The SOA provided a catered meal for all registrants and their guest. The Backstreet Deli set up their grill, tent and serving tables near the SOA tent. On the menu: marinated and grilled vegetables, chicken breast and beef brochettes on a stick, green chili, tortillas, corn on the cob, variety of breads, iced tea and bottled water, brownies and cookies. This was a fantastic meal with plenty of food for seconds and thirds. Russell and Charlene Woodruff also provided a talented decorated Jeep Cake that they had prepared at their rental house.

SOA Welder Give Away:

SOA held a drawing at the event and from a pool of all SOA membership names drew the name of one lucky member. Harvey Pistner is now the proud owned of a Millermatic 211 115/230V Welder!

Raffle:

We received raffles prizes with an estimated $4000 plus value. Tickets for the raffle were sold for $1 each. George Farrish and Ken Adams (myself) handled the ticket sales. The total sale for tickets was $1300. This year the ticket holders wrote their name or initials on the back of each ticket. This allowed the raffle to move a lot faster than past raffles. Clif Adams was the overseer of the raffle.

Charity Donations:

Each of the two Charities chosen by the SOA was given $650. (Children’s Tumor Foundation and Ouray Mountain Rescue Team)

The SOA thanks all who bought tickets and for those who provided the prizes. A thank you note has been sent to each supplier of the prizes.

Event Awards:

Jim Benoit -- People’s Choice Scrambler

Jim Benoit -- Most Original Scrambler

Brent Hodges -- Scrambler Driven Most Miles To Event

Steve Coop -- Hard Luck

Dash Plaques/Event Decal:

Dash plaques & decals were given out with each event goody bag.

Event Shirts:

100 T-shirts were ordered. We had many nice compliments on the design.

Event Pictures:

Tuesday, July 26, the trails were picked so that each group would arrive around noon at Animas Fork for the annual group picture of the Scramblers. Everyone took pictures each day and many were downloaded to the SOA external hard drive. The hard drive was then sent to the SOA president Jake White.

General Note By Me:

Even though this event was somewhat different than any other event we have had, it was still fun to prepare for. As with most events there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. This past event had a lot of legwork that had to be done in Ouray so I specially want to thank Bill Espinosa for all the time and effort he put in to make this event a success. It was a pleasure to work with him. Without him I would have been up the creek w/o a paddle. I also want to thank the other committee members: Clif Adams, Dan Cole and Peter Vera for their time and input. Also, thanks to Clif and Jason Adams, Clay Osborn, Russell Woodruff and George Farrish for all their help at the event and on the trails.

After three days on the trails near Ouray during July it is not difficult to see why Ouray has the reputation as the “Jeeping Capital of the World.” We Scramblers traversed a variety of terrain from extreme high mountain passes with rugged winding roads to areas of spectacular beauty found in the wildflowers and other vegetation that covered the grounds of the Alpine Tundra. With breathtaking scenery everywhere, the reunion of old friends and making of new friends and memories, along with great food; in my opinion the 2011 SOA National Scramble was a BIG success. `.

End of final report for the 2011 Scrambler Owners Association.

See ya next year.

Regards,

Ken Adams (Pappywaho)
