Bestop Upper Fabric Doors

Greetings from Oklahoma! I just became the latest owner of an 83 Scrambler and needed some windows for the half doors that came with my CJ-8. I ordered a pair with the part # 5179515 made by Bestop and the holes and pins don't line up other than the ones closest to the front hinges. My Amazing Wife had previously ordered a pair with the part # 5178015 as an early Christmas present that had to be returned because the front pin was to long to fit in the front hole for the door to shut properly. Does anyone know of some windows that might fit properly or do I need to look at a pair of Bestop doors to be able to get windows that will fit correctly.

Congrats on the Scrambler!

So the lower and the upper are both fabric, right? And both Bestop? If so, I have heard stories of the newer doors not being made to the same standards as the old ones so I have a feeling you will have to buy as a set of lower and upper together and hope they work together.

I need new uppers as well, but think I will need to buy a whole set

Thanks Dain

I forgot to mention in the earlier post that the doors are steel, who made them would be good to know but I have no idea. I might have to give them a closer look for any clues as to the manufacturer. As far as windows go I could care less what brand they are as long as they fit correctly and keep the winter weather out.

If those are standard YJ doors, I've heard on here that TJ uppers work well but the front pin needs to be moved. Someone on here should confirm that.

You may have figured out my problem. The first pair ordered part # 5178015 were supposed to fit a 1988-95 Wrangler. The holes and pins lined up correctly other than the front pin was too long for the window to properly seat all the way down. Since they were $433 I didn’t want to modify it and find out that they didn’t fit correctly and not be able to return them. I bought the Scrambler from a dealer who I believe bought it from the Mecum auction in Indianapolis and couldn’t really tell me anything about it other than engine and transmission.

Do you have the upper window frames ? You could then maybe just buy the upper window skins if they are still selling them.

How long is that pin. You have to line the window up straight horizontal then lower that front in first.

I had to buy the frames and skins, the pair that all the pins lined up seemed to be about an inch or so long on the front pin and didn’t have the roundish part on the bottom corner.

That wasn’t what I was expecting but it does seem like a solution to the problem.

You might want to look for a set of hard doors instead. I leave mine on until temps start to warm up then put on the half doors for summer and fall. Hell, with our weather lately, I still have the half doors on. However, this weekend will most likely force me to install the full doors. The joy of OKC weather is that the door choice, whatever way you go, is rarely wrong. Welcome to the forum.

I was thinking about the full doors before I opened up this can of worms with the soft windows and now I’m convinced it’s the way to go. This Scrambler has a lot of unknowns to it so I’ll probably try and figure out something with the windows next year! Thanks for the welcome

Thanks Dain

Beautiful Scrambler!

I found some YJ uppers with the round corner. I also have the TJ uppers and used them before I got these. On the first set of TJ uppers, I cut and rewelded the rear pin to fit in the door correctly. The second set I just let the rear pin scratch the plastic door card. Lazy. But these YJ uppers made for the hard top work great. Made my Steel Horse.

Thanks for the info, I had seen those online before I settled on the Bestop. I’m starting to think those Steel Horse would be the way to go when I have to have a window installed. Nice Scrambler!

I have the same set of uppers for my half doors. I like the look but don't care much for the rattling of the uppers. The doors fit tight but the uppers move quite a bit. Gr8dain, you notice that noise with yours? I'm not sure how they could be shimmed to fit better.

Thank you. My Scrambler is a beater/trail toy, but I love it
