Brake pedal won't get hard.

Two Scramblers. both have new vacuum assist master cylinders and new lines and new wheel cylinders. My friend brought his bleeder machine over and put fluid in and blead both Jeeps. One has a stiff pedal and works fine. The other the pedal goes to the floor. No leaks. Would this be a bad master cylinder? If so any easy fix? Or something else?

Were they bench bled with hoses as return lines into the reservoir or with plugs as the new MCs come with? If hoses, where you able to see the fluid moving on each?

Not bench bled. I had asked about that but my friend/backyard mechanic said he didn't need to when using his bleeding machine and hooking it up to all wheel cylinders more than once. First Scrambler came out fine. Second one not so much. They are the GM looking MC with the 2 wire locks. Should it be taken off and bench bled now or is something now messed up?

🤷🏻‍♂️
I fought one for a few hours. Took it off, bench bled it and it worked great after that. So probably worth a try. I did not have one of those fancy machines though, so it probably should have done the job.

I've bled brakes both with and without bench bleeding. It always seems to go faster if I bench bleed though. I've also had issues like this before and bench bleeding fixed it.

Try bench bleeding first. If that doesn't fix it, I'd say you got a bad MC right out of the box.

There seems to be a part missing or a different part needed between the MC and the booster. There is a small threaded rod (about 1/4") threaded into the booster. It doesn't travel enough to work the MC. I assembled what was sent to me. Does it need another part to thread onto this rod or did it need a different and larger part in place of that rod?

When I put power brake on my CJ 6 project I had brake issues as well. I ended up taking it to a local shop and they figured that it had the wrong size "push rod". And I don't know if I should admit this, but I had also managed to but the front disc brake pads on the wrong side of the rotors.

Did you use this tool to check the depth between the booster and MC?

Didn't know there was a tool for that. I messaged the Ebay seller that sold it to me and he said there needs to be a "bullett" that goes between the MC and the booster. If I find out how long it needs to be I can make it. So should it be long enough to not have any play in it when there is no pressure on the pedal?

I was about to say you might be missing that little rod. I had a short metal rod that had to slide in there between the booster rod and the mc. I installed my first one without it and never had brakes after realizing it and reinstalling everything it was much better. Sorry I cannot recall the size
