East Coast Scramble

Ok, guys, all is set!:D I got the directions and messages with contact numbers. Looks like I'm going to get an earlier start than expected, as a couple of jobs have been pushed back to middle of next week.

Also, since I'm going to be carrying a bunch of painting equipment to help out one of my cousins up north, John N has lent me his trailer so I can put all my painting equip in my truck and tow the jeep! (this will enable me to keep from having dropcloths, paint sprayer, etc etc from bouncing all over the place in the jeep on the trail).

Last i heard Ruberhook, was swamped at work, and I'm not sure if his Jeep is up and running I think I heard he put a LT1 in... zoom zoom.....

Are we planing on rain or shine??? Cause its looking like rain and lots of it. I would hate for Mike W to hike up here for a wash out.

I'm around let me know.

Hey all …. There was a small get together this past Saturday at CJ8Mikes place in NJ. Mike you have a great play ground….THANKS, you defiantly have rocks. Anthony and I had a great time! It was nice to meet you Mike (Wild Turkey), hope you got your painting done and you made it home ok.

Here is a picture of Wild Turkey. As you go up this hill you have to go around this tree, only its in the middle of the trail, next to a hill. If you go up to high in the hill, the top hits the tree. It was way worse comming down the hill then going up. CJ8Mike that tree has got to go...
 
CJ8Mike flexing again. I also have a QT video of Wild Turkey going up a hill ... but i'm not sure how to post it????

Ok...why does Mike (Wild Turkey) have a 'regular' full top in one picture, when you're starting out, and a fastback top in another picture?
 
Hey John.....I'm sure Mike will add his coments when he gets back...but we took the top down to get around the &^%$# tree and it just never went back up. It was worse comming down, we had to take the tops off and fold the hoops down too. I guess we were to busy pulling Mike up the hill to take a picture....

First of all, sorry for the very late post here about the trip up in NJ. I was kind of waiting to download my pics but I still haven't done that yet, so I'm just going to post anyway and maybe I can add the pictures later.

John N lent me his trailer (Thanks John!). It was the first time I had towed my cj8. The truck (1998 f150 supercab 4x4 with offroad package and brake controller) did great. It's rated to tow either 6600 or 7700 lbs (can't remember off the top of my head, but I made sure I knew before I decided to tow!) and I figure I was pulling somewhere around 5,000 - 5,300 pounds. All went well except I had a little problem with the trailer trying to weave whenever I exceeded 60mph, so I decided to be safe rather than sorry, and set the cruise control at 56 mph for the entire trip. BTW, I traveled over 900 miles by the time I got home (I visited some relatives in Pa for the weekend after the trail riding) and guess how many vehicles I passed on the highway during the ENTIRE trip....1! NOBODY goes 55 mph! The only vehicle I passed was a Little Debbie Snack Cakes truck just inside the Maryland state line! I think he was having engine problems!

Anyway on to the trail report:
CJ8Mike was a GREAT host and he has an awesome piece of property to ride. He kept us on the easier trails since Vinny's 8 is mostly stock and mine is only slightly modified and has some tires that weren't very well suited to the mud. Mike's 8 is set up for some extreme wheeling, so I'm sure that next time when some of you with more built-up 8s show up, he would want to hit some other trails. Mike and his friend Jay (TJ Wrangler) took a couple of additional trails when Vinny and I did some moderate go-arounds.

I got wedged up against a tree on the downhill side of the slope on the driver's side just in front of the windshield. We had to use the highlift jack as a winch to pull my 8 sideways away from the tree so I could get past. Worked like a charm (easy for me to say, as I was in the Jeep while they cranked on the jack handle!:o Thanks guys!:cool: )

Well, other than that, we had some challenging riding through some beautiful scenery. Mostly rocky dirt trails through the mountains, with a few nice creek crossings thrown in.

Mike - THANKS VERY MUCH for the opportunity. I hope to be able to do it again up there, but next time I will have my jeep lifted more and also will have on the new (to me) 33X12.5 mud terrains I just got.

Vinny - nice to meet you and your son. Since I followed you around most of the day, I can say that I was impressed with your driving skills! Hope to catch you around some time in the future.
