Finally

Congratulations on finally finding a Scrambler

I'll mimic what was said above about the 700R4/4L60/350, from previous experience:

Offset the engine as far over to the driver side as you can (mock up the engine with exhaust manifolds on, steering shaft installed, leave a hair clearance up front between manifold/steering shaft)
Even then, front driveshaft clearance will be tight, but it will work, but it will probably be less then 2" OD shaft
IF you outboard the springs/wider front axle, you will gain more clearance

I ran a stock wide track Dana 30, chromo shafts with a Tru-Trac and Warn internal mount hubs. I did not thrash/abuse the Scrambler, but I used it. I tore up two front driveshafts. But, I did not baby it. The driveshafts never broke, but the slip shafts got really sloppy. The current owner is still on same front driveshaft, just keep that in mind :twocents: The700R4/4L60 pushes the transfer case further back, resulting in a longer/smaller OD driveshaft then ideal :twocents: But, you may never have an issue.

Still looking for a good LS candidate. Plenty of them out there, but just have not found that one yet. Was thinking L33 for the light block. Just not sure about which one yet. I'm not looking to build a race car and would be very happy in the 275 horse range. Any ideas?

I was also drawn to the lighter weight. In the grand scheme of things the normal iron block is still lighter than the AMC I6. Any stock 5.3 will make that HP. I prefer the earlier cable throttle bodied ls engines to avoid the drive by wire. I know it’s doable, but it’s just one more thing.

Also a friend just did an 02 Avalanche 5.3, it didn’t have EGR from the factory.

I found a real nice 4.8 from a 01 that has 65k on it and it's been resealed and cleaned up. I made an offer and now I wait to hear back.

Back on the hunt for an engine. He sold this one before I had a chance to get down there.

I have a CJ7 coming from Colorado with 401 in it. I think I'm changing directions again. There is a 727 and Dana 300 with it and I just bought a 304 with a 904 (😔) so I'm going to swap those two around. The Scrambler is a keeper and the CJ7 is a flipper. I'd like to keep the 401.

So some of you might know that I have a 68 CJ6 project coming close to a finally soon. I have become very accustomed to that Spruce tip green Jeep color. I'm not sure if I am painting this one that color, but bot I'm leaning heavy in that direction. I'm thinking body STG and the top tan. I have a spice interior for it now and may even mix a spice paint for the half top. Whatcha think ??
