Are you still trying to get together orders for body armor.Just to bump this thread along, anyone else interested in ordering some aluminum body armor?
As fare as I know I’m on the list. I’m the one that started this thread. They said they were all of two orders deep as of Memorial Day. Please put your name on the list, if interested!
Any pics of your md juan tub? I'm in the exact same situation as you and this seems more cost effective then having a body guy fix the issues.Just spoke with Keith with Genright today. They are planning on making a run on some of the CJ8 rear armor around December. Give them a call to get on the list to order.
Poison Spyder was bought by Trans American. I doubt they would be any help to get corners made. Trans America buys companies and tries to make them more profitable and seems to close some if they can't. They also bought Smittybilt, Pro Comp, 4 Wheel Drive Hardware, G2 Axle and Gear.Any pics of your md juan tub? I'll know in a couple weeks, I hope that timing works out. Also, have you checked with poison spyder? They had aluminum armor at one point (part number 12-04-010-ALUM)
I've had good luck with laser cutting services online lately (sendcutsend.com, xometry.com), I just did an online quote with 3/16" thick 5052 Aluminum with lots of holes and a large wheel cutout. I did a piece that was 65"x16" as well as a piece that was 80" x 16" to simulate wrapping the armor around the rear corners.
Prices for 2x are as follows:
$390 plus shipping for the 65" versions ($195 per piece), price gets discounted to $182 per piece with qty 4
$894 plus shipping for the 80" versions ($447 per piece, price gets discounted to $421 per piece with qty 4
Obviously we would have to be responsible for taking measurements ourselves or leaving portions blank that we would cut ourselves. Being that the genright or poison spyder products were made for the OEM measurements, I doubt they fit our MDjuan tubs perfect either.
Yep getting good parts for these older CJ's is getting quite difficult.Poison Spyder was bought bybtrans American. I doubt they would be any help to get corners made. Giving them a call tomorrow to see if I can get on the listGenright are claiming that December is the month. Fingers crossed!
Plasma cutterNot having the tools or experience, what would be the best course to get them cut up for the wheel wells and other openings?
