hydraulic clutch conversion?

This is the best I could get being I’m getting to old to contort into a better position and a narrow garage with my doors on and it’s raining. Hopefully you can seeIMG_4223.jpegIMG_4222.jpegIMG_4221.jpeg

Thank you for the pictures. Do we know if there is a difference in the mechanical and hydraulic pedals?

Chris

I drilled my clutch pedal and used a stripper bolt. It worked but wore out quick and would start to have a crappy pedal feel so I swapped in a YJ pedal. Just get the early YJ pedal and call it a day. (I think 97-90) You do NOT need to swap the entire assembly, just the pedal.

I have a 1991 yj pedal. Too new? What does it take to convert to a yj pedal? This is interesting.

Chris

Here is good info on the various pedals:

Before I go scrounge ebay for a pedal, does anyone here have an early yj pedal with the brace they are willing to sell?

Chris

Alright, I have a pedal assembly on the way. I am planning on just a pedal swap on to my assembly and purchasing and installing a new 87-90 yj clutch master cylinder. The cj mechanical pedal has a very rigid pedal stop for the up or released position. It does not appear that the yj pedal does. Is this due to the hyraulics not requiring such a pedal stop?

Chris

Mine ( 84 CJ7 ) came with OEM clutch master cylinder. Went from 4 cyl to 6 cyl. Soft great clutch pedal to just about on the floor to engage and disengage pedal. The OEM C M C froze during this time. Raymond ( spankrjs ) was helping me with all that and he tried a couple of different ones, and the YJ is what I ended up with. One of these days I’m probably going to try the Wilwood CM cylinder.

I'll check out the wilwood. Thanks

Which master cylinder are you running Ron?

Sorry, I completely forgot about this thread. I'm running a 3/4 bore Wilwood master right now with my Chevy 5.3/AX15 setup. But I figured out that I just barely run out of travel on my internal clutch slave if I slam the pedal to the floor so I'm going to try a YJ Master. If that doesn't work then I'll put the Wilwood back in and put some kind of pedal stop to limit my travel. I don't remember what you're setup is. But if it's the 258 then my issue has absolutely nothing to do with you. Mine is a bit unique because of the LS.

I've read about the Wilwood master cylinder. Why did you end up with that one instead of a stock yj?

At the time I was running the external slave and the 3/4 bore master made the clutch pedal disengage in a nicer spot. The YJ (11/16) disengaged right off the floor and I didn't like that. But now that I'm running an internal slave I'm going to give the YJ one another try.
