Kane's Project CJ8-SS

I heard that. Pretty addictive isn't it. You look at some parts, like colour too thin or orange peel from not allowing long enough for the surfacer to "sink" and say to yourself "next time! The next one will be awesome!"

Yeah pretty much. In hindsight I should have painted some smaller jobs first but I tend to dive right in on new learnings. My next paint job will be a motorcycle so it will be a little less prep and less fixing when I screw it up.

I just wanted to give a little update on this project. I am not much for writing a ton of things since I mainly only spend time on a computer for work. I haven't updated since last year but I did get some work done.
1. Rebuilt the heater system and installed it.
2. I put the dash together and installed it.
3. Rebuilt the steering column and installed.
4. The seats got installed and brackets cleaned up.
5. Prepped and applied the U-Pol Raptor liner on the interior.
6. Finished the front steering with a tie rod flip and all new parts and applied POR-15 to both axles.
7. Cleaned up and painted the springs and replaced the bushings.
8. Bought a Cage kit from Extreme Customs and I am about finished with the fitting and final welding. I will remove the cage this week to prep and paint it. The whole thing is getting tied to the frame including the part tied to the dash. I didn't want to use the dash kit but there were way too many compromises with having the downtube in front of the dash. I am building a plate for the back side and will have the down tubes tucked in behind the dash.
9. I am mocking up the armor plating so I can drill the holes needed and plan to get them either painted or powder coated in the next month.

After these items are buttoned up then I need to fix the paint on my doors and assemble them for final install. I have to finish up the rear disk brake conversion after some fitting show up and install the longer rear wheel studs. Once this is done then I have the winter to get the motor and driveline put in.

Anyway here are the pictures.

I my quest to post in this thread at least once every 6 months I wanted to show the latest update. Here is how she sits today. I sent it back out for a repaint in January because I had the new armor and quite frankly I didn't do a very good job painting it myself. Once it came back I got busy with fun stuff like bolting on all the parts that have been cluttering my garage for years now. Last week I worked on the doors and rebuilt everything. I tinted the window with 35% tint and fitted everything up. Now on my list this week and to rebuild my short block on the 258 and get ready to drop that in with the AX-15 and Dana 300. I have everything on the bench ready to go for this weekend. My plan is to be driving it this spring so in order to hit that goal, I get up every day at 5 am and work on it until 6:45 before work. With 2 kids this seems to be the only way to make it happen. % years is too long on this Jeep. Hell I have never heard it run since I bought it. The excitement of finally being able to drive this Jeep is almost overwhelming and certainly a driving force for me.

Nice looking setting there...The light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter so keep up the good work!

Very impressive. I can imagine how many heads she'll turn when you have her on the road.

Dedication right there. Bit by bit Kane you'll git er done. Looks the same as surferjeeps colour? Atomic Orange?

It is called sunset metallic from Eastwood paint. It has allot of gold metal flake in the paint so it shines really nice in the sun.

I plan on running these rims which I think will fit the build very nicely.
