Keep the Lock-Right or get te Truetrac

I'm finally getting around to building my scout d44 that I got a few years back.
I've got a lock right in my NT d44 that I'm running now. It's great off road but I'm spending 95% of my time on the road and when I'm getting of road what I'm hitting is only mild to moderate. I like the added traction but getting a little tired of the the road manners, which is not bad but it does have its quirks.
I'm running 33s and will be going with 4.56 gears when I get this built. I don't do hard core trails and will not be going over 33 on my tires.

I've got a lock right in the front for when 4wd is needed.

Just looking for some thought and opinions of the truetrac.

I have TrueTracs front and rear and my Scrambler is basically used on the roadways and they work great. No quirks while using on roads.

Search on here, there's many opinions of their off road abilities. I don't think you'll find anyone with anything bad to say on their road manners, it's offroad that I've seen the comments on.

I just installed a TrueTrac in the rear and realy like the road mannors compared to the mini spool I had in it. The only thing I did not realize is that if one wheel come off the groud(no resistance), it will not engage unless you apply the brakes/park brake. I have not taken it on any trails to realy put it to the test but I drove it through the ditch and it engaged and worked great.

I was sold on doing the TrueTrac in the front in order to factor in some forgiveness while trying to gain some traction. My last Jeep had ARBs, so I was commited to getting something in the way of a locker.

Anyway, Ryan Kopecki made a post that put it into perspective for me. Essentially, it may be easier on gears, shafts and u-joints when you crawl at the cost of traction. Obstacles of the more moderate to difficult level, however, may require a running start which would place more stress on the drivetrain than a slow, controlled crawl from a truly locked axle.

That drove me nuts until I found a great deal on an Aussie. That made it easy.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Peter,
How do you like the 4.56 gears with the t-5.
I've got 4.10s now and put in a AX15 back in August. I'm not even pushing 2000 RPM at 60 and the 258 loves it. I'm going to 4.56 just to get some extra pulling power for when I'm going through the mountains pulling my camping trailer. I've had plenty of places where 4th was to high and 3rd to low on some long steep grades. I'm hoping going just a little lower in the gears will find the right balance.

I've read a lot of the posts here and on some other forums on the draw backs and limitations of running a truetrac. I"m just looking for a little bit of a confirmation on getting one. With the lock right in the font I don't see going from a lock right in the rear to a truetrac as an issue off road, if i need extra traction I'll just engage the front axle.

I'm almost doing a reverse build, looking at dropping the 8 about an inch maybe 1.5" (currently i have 4+" of lift and a 1" body lift) and improving its road manners, as it is on pavement most of the time, is the major goal of the project. I'm moving away from the off-roading to focus more on back road/forest service roads. If it was in the budget a nice selectable locker would be ideal but can not justify the extra cost.

I must say I had grand intentions of doing alot of offroading with mine, but for the most part it just stays on the street. The 4.56's work fine for in town pep and the overdrive of 5th gear is actually useable on the highway. They're a good choice for a stock 6 with 35's. For what I use mine for the Truetrac's were the right choice for me. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys.
I got my order put in last night.
Now if i can just get the rest of the parts and get them installed for this build phase before Hot Springs.
