Looking to improve steering

In this photo, your tie rod is mounted in front, and the drag link is mounted behind it... they need to change places.

Just to be as clear as possible. The way your steering is currently set up, one tire turns a significant amount less (as far as your steering alignment goes) than the other as soon as you're turned off-center. Also wondering if there are interference issues between the two when you're turned over all the way.

So, what folks are saying is that the ends of these two steering components need to switch holes in this knuckle and it will need a new alignment.

Makes perfect sense as I knew something wasn't right when I would make tight low speed turns... Thanks guys! Should be a quick fix. Those should drop right out after removing the pins and crown nuts?

Not quite "drop out" but a few wraps on the knuckle will usually break the surface tension and the shock cause the tre to come free. Usually a good idea to leave the castle nut in place but very loose to keep the tre from hitting the ground.

Probably 6 months. Had it back to that shop to diagnose the issue 2 times, both of which they had it 3 or 4 weeks. I know it's crazy but it's the kind of place if you don't physically go there every day your project won't get worked on

They never caught what you guys did just from pics... Big, big thanks!

After you change the steering, you need to get the jeep aligned by a qualified shop that will also add the shams to get your caster correct

Will do for sure... Excited to have a bead on this thing... Been frustrating because I was trusting this guy and out of my depth. Bad combo.

Have you looked for any local Jeep clubs? That can be a great resource to find decent Jeep shops.

Hope this gets you sorted, I had a RE 4.5" kit on mine for years and loved it. I do second the recommendation to get rid of the drop pitman arm and go with a tie rod flip kit. I did the Go Daddy flip kit with mine and it worked great.

What a flip kit does is switch the tie tod ends for the tie rod and drag link to the top of the knuckle (so the nuts and cotter pins end up on the bottom of the knuckle) that basically corrects the steering without the need for the drop pitman arm and gives you back your turning radius while also getting the tie rod up and out of harm's way.

Hope this gets you back on the road.
