Mikes 81 mongrel scrambler

Wow. Just Wow. That thing looks amazing! Those wheels are my favorite wheels, period.

I need to win the lottery....

And she's loaded, headed to my buddy's garage in Edmonton, so I can work on this thing after work at nights.

Oh man. Don't be. $35g so far. $20g to go. Woulda been cheaper to buy an AEV brute. But..........this ain't no belly button!!

That helps me with my jealousy. My build is definitely on a budget. Of course, I have looked at the JKU in my driveway and had really bad thoughts. ;)

Hello to you too!! So, I have to say this. I've failed to make my deadline, and I'm not even going to make it to Moab this year, due to extenuating circumstances. I changed jobs, and was hoping to have evenings to get the Orange bomb ready. That hasn't happened. Te new job is taking 12+ hours of my day. With a few days at 19, due to a plant shutdown where we were tying in new piping. Good money, happy to be one of the Alberta oil patch guys still employed. But I honestly haven't done a thing other than look at her and kick myself in the ***. I'm on a 10-4 schedule, which means that the 4 days off belong to my kids. So there hasn't been time to work on it like I need. So I've shifted plans a wee bit. My CJ 7 now has 33" rubber, a warn 9.0RC series winch, lights, and is almost ready to use to explore this summer. Cause I'm not going to be without a jeep for the summer. I still have all the plumbing to do, brakes, fuel, etc, figure out a hydro assist set up, air for the rear locker, wiring, dress the motor, EFI, etc, before she'll actually run. I'll likely sub out a lot of the work over the summer, fall and winter. The outfit I'm working for has me lined up for a job starting late spring in northern Alberta, about 7-8 hours from home, doing a 14 on, 7 off shift. So my Powerwagon has gotten some new tires, and I'm looking into getting it on 40" tires for the shitty conditions I'll be dealing with. Glad I can write that all off. One way or another, come hell or high water, she will be alive for Moab next year. I'm figuring right now there's about $20g in parts left to go, never mind any labour costs I may incur.

Glad to hear your doing well with the job. Job comes first (along with family), no job makes it hard on family and toys. Plenty of time to get her together.

Must be killing you going from hero to zero on that jeep. All in good time. Enjoy your family in the off swing.

Oh so true!! But.........tho I missed my goal for this year, I still have a jeep capable of what I want to do!! And that's what matters to me. Oh, and I forgot to mention, Noah's jeep, my 15 year olds, is getting a lift, some 33", a Ford 8.8 rear end, all for a week long wheeling trip this summer, on which he's going to pilot his YJ, with a buddy of mine sitting shotgun, while I run my CJ 7. So all in all, it'll be a great summer still. Plus, who wants to be without a winter project? ;)

Now that right there is a positive attitude. I could learn from that.

I'll post the pics of the summer runs! Y'all will understand why I wheel!! We've been opening up trails that haven't seen a jeep or truck in twenty years. Still legal, still allowed to run, but everyone uses quads nowadays. We've got one that we started last year, and will continue to open this year, that is love for any of you to come up, even if it's shotgun seat to see. We found ghost towns, and gold mines galore in the eastern mountains of BC. And one trail that actually put the front tires of our jeeps on a glacier. Winters over, we had a good run on the Orange beast, but now it's wheeling, camping, campfire, whiskey, beer and bullshitting time!!
