So we just got a new to us convertible(like new low mileage garage kept '08 sebring convertible).
We do not have a usable garage but would like to keep in sheltered from the weather some. Only looking at the ones with a roof, not sides. Can anybody recommend or not recommend any kinds. Will need to be able to stand up to snow. 10x20 max size(township really says can only 10x16).
Thanks, really do not want to buy one and have it collapse under snow or rust out in 6 months.

Build a frame and shrink wrap it! Easy to do and cheap. Can be top only or part way down for more protection.

What kind of shrink wrap did you use/where do you buy it?

10 mil white but 7 or 8 mil works, too. Get it from Dr. Shrink in Michigan. Any size up to 60x100. I use a cheap weed-burner torch to shrink with. Actually, I've wrapped a lot of stuff that needs a tarp, but this is better, and you can re-use it.

I'm confused. If you're going to go that far, why not build a permanent garage?

Township will not let me even if they did I can not imagine how much they would raise my taxes.

Wow. My taxes are based on the sq ft of living area and almost nothing for attachments.

I have 1/2 acre, 1100 sq ft house, 1 outbuilding 10x20. Over 6k in taxes. YES I want to move!

Wow. I have 2 acres aprox 1900 sq ft of living area and over 6,000 sq ft of garage and shop and I pay less than $900.00 a year in property axes. I guess that is why I can afford 7 vehicles.

my property and house are about the same size with a 20x 20 garage and my taxes are over 10 grand jersey sucks for taxes
As for as portable garages go I have a Harbor Freight one I bought 3 years ago for about $100 to keep my boat in and it still holding up pretty well even with the last 2 winters that were real bad here. Just made sure to get the snow off it.

If you are willing to spend a little more you can get one of those wood portable sheds. Often at the lumber yards or a places that just sells them and truck tops. Since they are on skids and put up on concrete blocks they are often not considered permanent building and do not get taxed or fall under the building codes. Depends on locality, but you can get them in 12x16 and 12x20 with a garage door on the end.

If you are looking at Roof only then those sheet metal carprts often work well, but it is usually better to at least have a Gravel pad put in to help with mud and drainage.

This will actually be sitting on my driveway or spanning over it. My township sucks with things like this. Wanted one for my camper said it could only be 169 sq ft. They also consider my non registered but running driving 401 powered scrambler that I had shippied in from Oregon and my '85 CJ7 all original but rusty to be abandoned.
Thinking about building one with 4x4 posts and 2x4 rafters with a tarp. should be stronger and not much more money I hope. Keep the ideas or experiences coming.

My town sucks with things like that too any garage tent must be considered temporary so frame building one was out of the question. The frame work on the harbor freight one is ok and it is 10 x 17 so it fits the square footage you are looking for. Now that I have had it a while I plan on making a few upgrades. My plan is to get a roll of 6' chain link fence from home depot and wrap the sides and back and add some extra cross bracing. That should make it nice and strong. Next i was planning on some rippled plastic for the roof to add some strength for when it snows then throw the cover back on it so it doesn't attract any attention from the township other than looking like a standard garage tent.

Temporary buildings usually end up in another county or state here when a Hurricane hits. That's why they are frowned upon in Louisiana.

My grandfather had a 74 thunderbird that he restored and stored it along the garage under one of those metal car ports. When he died I had to get the car and sell it. The bottom undercarriage and everything on the underside was a heavy coat of rust. The gravel held the water and allowed it to coat the underside of the car.

Most of the ones sold around here are pretty sturdy (Wisconsin) one is domed with closed ends. As for the 'floor" I would put down a tarp or visquine (plastic) as a moisture barrier.

Ive been thinking about one as well for my riding mower and 6x6 just to get them out of the garage so I have more room...
